| Okay this movie sucks...literally.In some backwoods Florida bayou a couple of poachers disappear.The locals think they're drunk but we know better don't we!There's some sort of varmints in the swamp! A hot little tramp(Yvette Vickers in a stand out role)is running around on her lovesick/foolish husband Dave. While fooling around with her wimpy boyfriend the hubby comes upon them with a shotgun. To scare them he herds them into the swamp.Well the swamp varmints come up and snatch the couple off in front of him. Well the locals don't believe the story(especially the hero who has the personality of a deck chair).Dave is jailed where he promptly hangs himself.Before too long others start vanishing in the swamp. The doctor wants to dynamite the swamp to see if he can kill or bring up what is out there.But our lantern jawed, living brain donor hero swears he will arrest his future in law if he does.In turn he is invited by his fiancee to pound it if he arrests her father. Will more swamp goobers be carried off by the leeches?Will our hero ever get any satisfaction? There are a few problems with this fun piece of trash.The leading man is a real stiff.He has the acting range of patio furniture.The leeches while creepy also elicit some big laughs.You can see how the costume designer didn't take into consideration the actors would need oxygen tanks.Nice tanks.There also seems to be only two leeches due to a very limited budget.The townsfolk are inbred swamp morons and you can only wish more of them had fallen prey to the leeches. Even though this was set in the swamps of florida it was filmed outside of LA.It moves quickly and the swamp setting is extremely creepy.The scene with the captured locals stacked up like human groceries in the monsters' cave is enough to make your skin crawl.When the leeches start feeding you'll feel revolted. The score is good and was lifted from Beast From Haunted Cave. All in all a fun way to spend an hour! |
