Based on the novel by Bryan Edgar Wallace Starring: Hansjörg Felmy-Richard Sand Marianne Koch-Ann Dietmar Schönherr-Dr. Morely Greely Hans Nielsen-Dorne Fritz Tillmann -Sir George In the mid 1960's London is once again rocked by a series of gruesome mutlilation murders in the style of Jack The Ripper. At the same time one of the most successful plays in London is about Jack The Ripper. Is this a case of life imitating art? Richard Sand plays Jack The Ripper onstage. Is he playing it offstage as well? There are many suspects. The slimy stage manager, the best friend, the director/writer who sees the killings as great publicity or even Sir George who is hiding something as well are just a few suspects. Members of Parliament want to shut the play down as they feel it is contributing to the decline of society.(Just goes to show that political lunacy didn't get its beginnings in just the current climate). As more bodies pile up it is revealed that Sands is a former drug addict and spent time in a sanitarium!(Today he would be highly praised by the media for this).Toss in a dopey private investigator and his dizzy dame for comic relief balanced against some fairly brutal murders for the time. This has a nice sleazy jazzy score by Martin Bottcher.Well directed by Edwin Zbonek who also helmed The Mad Executioners. This is the last of the Wallace series from Artur Brauner and CCC.While it doesn't hold up to such classics as Strangler Of Blackmoor Castle, Phantom Of Soho or Mad Executioners it is worth a viewing. |
