| Maybe this page is haunted.I've tried to build it three or four times.The first time it ate the site map which I had to re do.Then it destroyed the Batwoman page which I also had to redo.Third time a charm?Coincidence or curse? SPIRITISM South of the border Mexican snoozer best watched on the couch while snug in a blanket with both eyes shut. Some friends gather for an evening in which a woman uses a Ouija board to communicate with her late husband.When a woman(Mary) scoffs and pokes some heavy fun at the messages from beyond, the hostess tries again. This time the messages are dire.If Mary is not careful she could destroy her whole family.And it all will start on April 8th.Coincidentally the 8th will be her 24th wedding anniversary. On the 8th her husband Luis presents her with the deed to the house as it is finally paid off.But their son Rudolf has other plans.Big shot pilot boy wants them to remortgage the house so he can start a cropdusting venture. This young man is such a whiny little jerk you'd like to kick him in the ass and tell him to find the cash some other way.But Ma & Pa give in. Bad move.Rudolf is kind of a goober and business goes bad.While he manages to get an extension the bank is preparing to foreclose on his parents' home. Mary spends time at church praying for help that isn't forthcoming.She meets an old friend Amy there who is supposedly away on vacation .Amy tells her to stick to the path of holiness and leaves.When Mary gets home her husband tells her it couldn't have been Amy.She died yesterday. Mary joins a spiritualistic cult that uses a medium.She badgers her husband into going.When spirits do actually show up the husband is convinced.But things financially don't get any better.Mary invokes evil spirits to aid her out. One stormy night a man who could be Satan shows up and gives her Pandora's Box.If she opens it her wishes could come true.She gets three wishes.Her husband forbids her to use it and locks it away. Rudolf shows up with grim news.A hard freeze has killed the crops and the farmers can't pay him.Instead of paying off the note with earlier payments he expanded the business and is now double the original amount in the hole.Way to go Einstein!You should have taken an economics course instead of flying lessons! Mary opens up the box and finds a human hand in it.She makes a wish for the exact amount of money needed to pay off all of the family debts.Holy Monkey's Paw!.Rudolf dies in a plane crash (ace pilot my arse) and a check for the funds is delivered to mom and pop. You just know that mom wants her baby boy back.And he comes back looking like street pizza.Luis wishes for it all to go away (and you will too)and it does,but at a terrible cost. Then again he didn't have to watch through this movie. One of the biggest fears of those of us who aren't wealthy is the loss of the family home.This is played up big time in this film.It is extremely scary to lose everything and be tossed out into the street.Fear of this can lead to irrationalism. This really isn't a horror movie as it is more of a morality play.If Mary had stuck to the right path everything would have been fine.But she chose the easy way and destroyed her whole family. This would have been better off as a half hour tv episode. The dvd is hideous.The film stock is old and green.The dvd stops before the last chapter and you have to manually access it.If you've gotten that far into this talky flick you may as well suffer through the rest of it.This is a bad film but not as bad as say Swamp Of The Lost Monster. |
