PHOTO 10Preparing the rocket for flight. A removable hatch at the side of the rocket fuselage allowed for adjustment of the electronic module which controlled parachute release, as well as recording flight data.
A strip of tape is visible between the nosecone and fuselage. Three such strips were applied before each flight, and constituted an important part of the parachute ejection system. This was a pyrotechnic system, and the tape allowed pressure to build up such that the nosecone (with attached parachute) was forcefully blown off...
