PHOTO 27 -- Three experimental rocket motors, June 1973
PHOTO 27These rocket motors are the development versions of the three types used for all later flights.
Top: B-II motor, the flight-rated version of this motor is the A-100 with a propellant capacity of 100 grams.
Middle: B-III motor, the flight-rated version of this motor is the B-200 with a propellant capacity of 225 grams
Bottom: C-II motor, the flight-rated version of this motor is the C-400 with a propellant capacity of 400 grams.
These motors are fabricated from steel tubing (casing) with a machined steel nozzle. A shear-type safety bolt retains the motor head and prevents case bursting failure in the event of excessive pressure buildup in the motor.
