PHOTO 52 -- Flight C-6 : June 23, 1973

Immediately after liftoff, the rocket swerved quite sharply, and as a result, travelled far downrange. The parachute did not deploy, likely as a result of the trajectory which meant that the rocket would not have slowed sufficiently to activate the air-speed switch. A distant thud was heard after a while, and despite exhaustive searching, the rocket was never found. The impact occurred in an area of rather tall alfalfa, and according to my log, "swarms of mosquitoes hampered search efforts" !
