GLIDER DIETS
The Suncoast Diet
1) A protein source
2) A fresh fruit/veggie source sprinkled with a daily dose of vitamins and calcium supplements to ensure adequate nutrition
Both of the fresh components should be served in the evening with the uneaten portion removed in the morning.
3) A staple food source available all day, everyday to make sure that adequate food amounts are offered. You will likely find that your sugar gliders will eat the fresh food first and will nibble on the staple food throughout the day and night. It has been our observation, especially while breeding, that they will wake up during the day for a snack.
PROTEIN
Offered on a four day rotation with one item offered from the list daily:
     - gutloaded mealworms- feed 10 - 12 small, 7 - 10 medium and 3 - 5 large
     - gutloaded crickets- feed 3 - 5 crickets per glider
     - boiled eggs(no shell) mixed with a high protein/low sugar cereal such as corn flakes or special k and mixed with either honey or apple juice.1 heaping tablespoon is offered per 2 gliders.
     - yogurt (blueberrry or peach) 1 heaping tablespoon is offered per 2 gliders.
SPECIAL NOTE: just weaned joeys are not quite ready for mealworms or crickets so substitute gerber chicken baby food with applesauce or sweet potatoes for the protein portion of the diet. Offer small mealworms weekly until the joeys learn how to eat them without any trouble.
    - june bugs and grasshoppers are also good insects to feed your gliders.Never feed lighting bugs to your gliders.
FRUITS AND VEGGIES
Offered in single portions daily and varied from day to day.
apples, pears, sweet potatoes, watermelon, honey dew, cantaloupe, carrots, kiwi, mango, oranges(once per week and never to joeys),grapes (red are preferred)
VITAMIN AND MINERAL SUPPLEMENTS
Vitamins and calcium should be given daily.Recommended are Vionate as a well rounded vitamin designed for small animals and Rep-cal Calcium, the phosphorous free without vitamin D3 added version. Vionate has vitamin D already, Sprinkle lightly over fruits and veggies.Wombaroo milk replacement should be used for breeding gliders, it has a beneficial effect on lactating females.1/8 of a teaspoon everyday is what suncoast uses.During pregnancy it is ok to gear the diet towards the female and it won't hurt the male to eat the same foods, but provide exercise to ensure he maintains a good weight.
STAPLE FOODS
offered in the cage at all times.Zookeeper's Secret is what suncoast uses.It is semi-moist food and it can be offered all day. It is very important for small animals to have access to food all day.
FRESH WATER SHOULD BE OFFERED ALL DAY!!!!!!!!
extra treats should only be given after they have eaten a substantial amount of their food.
