October Fishing Reports

October pics
October 5th: Chris and I went out in the late afternoon for awhile expecting to have a tough bite. I was pleasantly surprised to find a pretty decent bite with some nice fish being caught. Chris was a good girl today and let me catch almost all of them. The 2 nicest came on 4 colors of lead with a purple prism small deep Bomber. Various Reefrunners caught the other 5. I heard good reports from some others out there too and also some not so good reports but this was the first good day of weather in more than a week so it's a good sign. 48 trips

October 6th: Fished for a couple hours with Foots. No hits whatsoever but the fish are still in the same area
49 trips

October 8th: Fished with Chris again after work. 1 fish at about 8 pounds. Chris got her first FO of the year.

October 10th: Me and Chris again for a couple hours, north of Cranberry with no fish again. Looks like we'll have to make a long run for the Huron Booster tourney. 51 trips

October 11: Huron booster Tourney. 39 teams showed up and it was a gorgeous day. Me and Chris looked a little for a 3rd partner to fish against all the 4 man teams but wound up fishing by ourselves. We fished the 36-22 lines for hours with Dipseys and spoons because that was what most people were doing. We got 1 fish that way and that was on a small Big Jon and spoon behind a board. I took 2 fish on lead core and Renosky pretty quick but because of all the traffic couldn't get back on them. After that we decided to move out of the pack to the 39-23 line and picked up 2 more. Again on Renosky's. The fish we caught were nice fish but not nearly enough of them. The biggest was 8.6 pounds. We wound up somewhere in the middle of the pack I think with 29 pounds total. 52 trips

October 13th: Spent the day with Brian Thomas with Chris meeting us at noon for the rest of the day. It was very slow most everywhere in the morning but it caught fire with the fish being suicidal over towards Vermilion. Unfortunately we stayed north of Cranberry and only got 2 6.5's in the boat. I was being stubborn and thought we'd get them going without making a run like Saturdays. I had a good time with Brian, hope he thinks the same! The 2 we got were late in the day after the fish finally moved off the bottom. Got them with Flame and Hot Tamale Reefrunners up high at 50 and 35' back respectively. 53 trips

October 18th: We fished near shore in 19-25' for a while and Chris got 2 real nice Smallies but no walleyes. We then moved to the 24-27 area and fished for a couple hours with nothing happening there either. We finally stooped to moving to the 25-27 area next to a big pack of boats and managed to get 4 fish right before dark. Still no big fish with the biggest about 6 pounds. 54 trips

October 19th: Chris and I again. We fished in close  the couple hours before dark and a couple after with a little more luck this time. We never got deeper than 30' and pulled 3 before dark and then 4 more after dark. All the fish came on cranks except 1 on a spoon behind a Reefrunner. Once again spoons just aren't getting it done for us but then we aren't fishing where everyone else is either. After dark all the fish came on deep divers at 15-30' behind the boards in 15' of water of less. We did lose a couple big fish but again the biggest was about 6 pounds. We had some electrical problems last night. The kicker wasn't charging the main battery and we had to jump start the main motor with my trolling batteries. They hadn't been charged for a while either so it got a little hairy there for a while. 55 trips

October 23rd: Went out on foots boat for a couple hours of night fishing with no luck. did have a couple pull backs but no hookups. no one else was out. 56 trips

October 24th: Went out with Chris for a test run after having my boat looked at. the trailer is done and looks fantastic. Cranberry did a nice job on it. We fished before dark for an hour or so and after for about half an hour. No luck and no hookups at all.  57 trips

October 25th: The solar flares must be giving me bad Karma, just about anything that could go wrong did! Fished just north of Cranberry in 35 FOW and we saw fish being caught most of the day by others. We had several hookups and Chris had one she couldn't turn around. We lost all but one 2 pounder that committed suicide by putting the hook through both jaws. Several teams in the WRWA had it figured out though and weighed over 40 pounds with Sundance in first and Ronnie Rhodes close second and Kdog in a close 3rd. We were probably close to last. "UpYours II"  is a boat name I'm going to remember. He came up behind us and clipped one of my boards. His big boards were so far out that I didn't even see it until it was too late. I should have taken a picture and called a game warden. They had 8 lines out and only 2 people on board. It also cost me about 45 minutes of fishing time but they did give my stuff back! 58 trips.

October 30: Me and Chris fished with Beaconhill (Tom Benedict) on his 27' Marinette. this was chris's first ever trip on a big boat and my first in a long time. It was very relaxing in some pretty choppy water. We managed 6 or 7 fish just north of Vermilion in 45 feet of water. all fish came on cranbaits and out of a very small spot that we had all to ourselves. We stopped at the Red Clay in Vermilion on our way in for a great supper. 59 trips

October 31st: we didn't fish on friday and just traveled around talking to a many people as we could that were in town for the WC Get together and then went to Mesenbergs early to try and help get ready for the dinner and raffle that night. Chris told me that I'd be BS'ing within 10 minutes after getting there but she was wrong, it only took about 1 minute. She helped at the desk with tourney and big fish sign ups and as a reward Scott pulled a ticket for her that won a Glyde Ryde seat. That was what she had been praying for for the last 2 years. I met alot of new faces to put with names from WC and got to see some people that we only get to see at these events. We had a great time and the dinner was excellent!
