The statistics and facts given on this website are unofficial.

With regard to championship positions, when two (or more) drivers are tied on points, the driver who's best finish [over the course of the season] is the highest, is recorded first.

For example:   (6th in championship) Driver A:  20 pts; (7th in championship) Driver B:  20 pts

Driver A's best finish  =  3rd         Driver B's best finish  =  4th

Even if Driver A's next best finish was 7th and Driver B's next best finish was 6th, Driver A would still be placed ahead of Driver B, because he has the highest best finish.

This accounts for the constructor's championship as well.
