Jerry = J    Host Zhang Ching Fang = H

H: I welcome everybody to today’s show of FENG MIEN REN WU ( meaning THE PERSON ON THE COVER). Today’s special guest, upon sitting down, or should I just say,  the whole atmosphere in today’s studio is also a little different, the first  reason is that there are many reporters around, many photographers too, which of course represents that this  person is really welcomed by everyone. The second special reason is that upon arrival, he complained of an upset stomach, that his whole physical condition is a mess, thirdly, upon sitting down, he told me “Actually, Sister Ah Fang, you really look so baby-faced.” How can this person be so contradictory?
J: She paid me NT1,000.00 just for me to say that about her. Everyone, don’t be misled by her.
H: Hey, I haven’t introduced you yet, how can you just start talking?
J: You don’t have to turn the cameras on me, let the audience hear my voice and guess who I am.
H: What did you say a while ago as to how you want to be called?
J: A- Shui
H: He said can’t call him that…( meaning “Bao Long”)
J: Right
H: And can’t also call him that..( meaning “Xiao Bai Tu)
J: Right.
H: In any case, it has to be A-Shui
J: Right. Calling me A-Shui is a more familiar name since we know each other already.
H: Feels very familiar, but actually, you are not that familiar with me yet.
J: In fact, I think we know each other quite well;  we ate together once already.
H: When I saw you that day, I felt you looked like someone who was just hit by something.
J: Really?
H: You looked real… (trying to describe how he looked by hunching over)  you were not as cheerful as you are today.
J: Really?
H: That day, you looked melancholy, weren’t you?
J: Oh? I don’t know, it’s possible that day, I was quite tired.  On the other hand, I wasn’t familiar with all of you yet.
H: Now that you are often seen in public, you appear like that most of the time, right?
J: Yes. Right.
H: That day, his whole body was hunched like this (host hunches over)  and he wore a hat carrying a big backpack, in any case, you looked all packed and  it seemed you wanted to quit from something at anytime.
J: Right.
H: That kind of feeling.
J: I also don’t know how I just became used to it. Like when I go out every time, I have to put on a hat, and carry a big backpack. This way, I feel safer. Now, I don’t feel comfortable without carrying anything on my back. Right, this way, I feel safer.
H: In fact, this is the attire that you’ve become accustomed to after you became famous. You feel a lot safer, right?
J: That’s probably it. It’s more low profile. When I wear something, the office would say how come I just wear anything. Sometimes those torn things, and wearing those pants that look like they got dragged through the ground after falling off from a motorcycle. The company thinks that being an artist…
H: ( Takes out some pictures of Jerry wearing rugged outfits) But look at your pictures here. You are wearing those torn outfits, but they still look very good. Tell me, to get into this circle probably took you a year, right.
J: Right
H: It’s like this after one year.
J: It’s almost a year now
H: This kind of confidence, this kind of achievement.
J: It’s only an image…
H: Don’t tell me you are just pretending.
J: Right, just pretending.
H: Why are you like that?

Scenes of Meteor Garden I come up on screen with narration saying: The much idolized, “Meteor Garden” turned Jerry Yen into an instant idol when he just barely started as a beginner in the acting circle. He instantly became the movie fans’ most adored icon. However when all the attention was centered on Jerry Yen, he just felt he did not deserve all the glory and anxiously wanted to explain and to show clearly to everyone the real Jerry.

Back to studio interview:

H: You are not really used to people praising you, right?
J: It’s not praise because I myself know that actually I have no self confidence. This is true. I know that I have no confidence in myself. So many times… it causes me to have more negative feelings, not letting myself feel confident enough.
H: You have no confidence in yourself?
J: That’s why most of the time, those things just make me feel the opposite . Not letting the self feel self confident.
H: No self confidence
J: Right
H: Why? What do you think you lack?
J: What I lack?
H: You have so much that other people don’t have. What do you lack?
J: A lot. For example, the things that other people know, I still don’t. Right now, there are a lot of things that I have to try so hard to learn in order to catch up with what others are now. Right. That’s why I feel…right…the pressure is quite strong.
H: ( to the audience) Let me tell you, in the past 3 minutes that I have talked to him, he must have spoken about pressure for eight times already. Really…
J: Did I?
H: Take a look at how his friends show concern for him
