The Company is an investment holding company incorporated in Australia on 10 January 1985 as Pacific Communications Hldgs Ltd. The Company's shares were listed on the ASX since 30 January 1986. The Company was then principally involved in closed circuit television importation and distribution business in the region. Faced with continuing operating losses, the Company sold its CCTV business. On 11 June 1998, the Company changed its name to Australasian Technology Corpn Ltd, and soon thereafter acquired Niche Tech. Niche Tech's principal business, being the sales and distribution of capital equipment, formed the Group's new core business. In 1999, the Company acquired CNT Pte Ltd and Microtel Corpn Pty Ltd, both involved in the computer business. In 2000, the Company acquired American Tec Co Ltd, a Hong Kong-based distributor of capital equipment to PCBA and semiconductor back-end assemblers in China and Hong Kong. It also acquired 52 percent of Smartag (S) Pte Ltd, a provider of transponder products and electronic identification labels. The Company changed to its present name on 29 June 2000. It is an investment holding company. The Group's main businesses comprise: · supply of capital equipment to the printed circuit board assembly and semiconductor industry back-end assemblers and manufacturers of printed circuit boards, provision of maintenance service and sales of parts of those machinery, sale and distribution of consumables; · sale and distribution of computers and peripherals; and · supply of electronic paper-thin identification labels. Provides services/products to semiconductor, PCB and IT industries. FY01 profit and turnover surged 160% and 254% respectively, booosted by a significant increase in equipments sales and services in North Aisa, mainly China.
