The Company was incorporated as National Iron And Steel Mills Ltd on 12 August 1961 by local investors and the Economic Development Board. On 31 May 1990, it changed its name to NatSteel Ltd.
The Group has operations and joint ventures in 15 countries. It is focused on three core business areas: steel, industrial and electronics.
The steel division has a regional network of mini-mills in Singapore, Malaysia, China, the Philippines and Vietnam, and an investment in a Brazilian integrated mill. Singapore servces as the hub providing R&D, engineering, logistics, sourcing and other support services.
The industrial division is the market leader for cement, precast concrete, premix mortar and related building products in Singapore. Other activities in this division include specialty and environmental chemicals, and engineering products and services.
The key company in electronics division is NatSteel Broadway Ltd, one of the largest integrated contract manufacturer in southern China.
Steel 55.7%, industrial 20.4%, electronic 22.6%, properties and investment 1.3%.
1HFY deep in the red mainly to restructuring charge of $130m in relation to the streamlining of it Singapore steel operations and other businesses. NatSteel expects 2H01 performance to improve, but still epects a full year loss because of the restructuring charges.
