The Company was incorporated in 1963 as Faber Union Ltd, a subsidiary of Faber Union (HK) Ltd. It changed to its present name in 1975 after United Overseas Bank acquired a controlling interest in the Company in mid-1973. One of Singapore's largest property companies, the Group has established an impressive track record, developing high quality commercial and residential properties in prime locations both in Singapore and overseas. It also has diverse interests in hotel development and management, retail and investment holding. It owns about 75 percent of Hotel Plaza Ltd ("HPL"), listed on SGX-ST. The Group's commercial properties include Odeon Towers, UOL Building, United Square, Faber House, Tiong Bahru Plaza and Eunos Warehouse Complex. HPL owns the following hotels: Plaza Parkroyal, Grand Plaza Parkroyal and New Park Centra in Singapore; Parkroyal Kuala Lumpur and Penang Parkroyal in Malaysia; in Australia, Parkroyal at Darling, Parkroyal Parramatta, Landmark Parkroyal, Sheraton Perth Hotel and in Vietnam, Garden Plaza Hotel and Hotel Sofitel Plaza Saigon. Other properties include the Novena Square (commercial development) and The Plaza (serviced apartments). FY00 Turnover operation 54.9%, property investments 26.1%, property development 1.8%, investments 12.4%, trading/retail operations and managment services 4.8%. 1HFY01 porifit fell due to lower investment income, reduce conrtibution from hotel in Australia and higher interest on borrowing for Novena Square development.
