Fantastic overview of the sixties, a musical famous period, because the groups had to prove themselves first on stage and a later step were the recording sessions. So quality of the beat group was most important.

A truly superb web site . I was born in 1952 which makes me 48 years old now . It would be nice to be younger but NOTHING could ever replace the magic of growing up in Britain in the 1960s era with so much great music around . Just selecting ANY given wee of the pop charts between 1963 and 1967 brings up at least 5 really great classic pop songs . Sadly that can not be truly stated about any era since .

As an avid rock trivia buff and rock music book collector - this site is a real find for me! Too bad the music of today doesn't have the experimental creativity and passion of the 60's. The only thing that matched it (in my opinion) was the experimentatio of the British punk and New Wave of the late 70's/ early 80's.

What a fantastic page. Congratulations on a wonderful work. I'm only 30 years old, and therefore was born a few years after this era, but the music has had a hold on me like no other genre. I'm a music historian (not professionally, but for my own interes ) and I'm constantly buying up CD compilations of the more obscure bands of that era (to Americans at least) and it seems like there is no shortage of true gems to be found. And this page has helped to point me down some previous unexplored (by me) avenue . I'd love to hear from anyone roughly my age who is that much into this music. Please feel free to E me at Nankerphlg@aol.com. Cheers.

In these days when every site (not just music ones ) is filled with heavy graphics , plugins ,animations and all but only 5% of them have good, reliable and/or new info it's a relief to see a site like this. Also , averybody talks these days of the Doors , Hendrix, Velvet ,etc. they forget that they never could have happened if it wasn't for this particular period you feature on your page. We have to thank Lennon,Jagger, Ray Davies,Marriot , Kenny Pickett , Jeff Beck , Townshend , Macca , Graham Nash , Rod Argent , etc. for Rock not just turning into another fad in the nasty music indus try , just at the end of the period you cover on your page. This said , I just have to say ...PLEASE keep up the good work. This was written hearing 'Keep the freeway open', by the 4 Pennies. João Lucas.

Are you going to the Summer Sixties 2000 Celebration, August 18-20, in Brighton, England? If so, I would like to hear from you. I have not been able to find anyone able to attend the event with me and would like to meet someone / others to share in the fe tivities. Also, if you too are travelling solo perhaps we could share a room to save on expenses and attend the event together. I am a 38 year young woman from Dallas, TX and would prefer to share a room with another woman. Please respond directly to lree es8@flash.net.

Finally discovered site on Liverpool group "The Dennisons". Having been a member of the group and singer on "Walkin`The Dog" it was good to see that someone had taken the trouble to place on record some of our achievements. I have been trying for years to obtain any footage of our numerous T.V.appearances between 1962 &1965, particularly our "live" Ready,Steady,Go! which was the second live performance after "The Yardbirds". If anyone can point me in the right direction I wo ld appreciate the help. Keep Rockin`. Ray Scragg.

What a superb site! I'm originally from Brighton, but having been living in Milan (Italy) for some 15 years. long live 60's british rock music.there is no comparison!i started listening to the radio when i was hospitalized in germany for an illness when i was 4 yrs old.i never stopped listening.i remember ray charles in the late 50's,the impressions in the early 60's-then came the british invasion with groups like the beatles, the stones, the animals, the spencer davis group, the kinks, herman's hermits;and later wayne fontana & the mindbenders, the yardbirds(well all right now!),etc.it was all good!of course all of th s music led way to cream, traffic, jethro tull, and led zeppelin.i haven't forgotten hendrix, but this web site is about british rock, ain't it.julie driscoll brian auger and the trinity band deserve an honorable mention.in the early 70's someone stole my stre tnoise album which i was able to rebuy in the late 80's or early 90's at a considerably higher price at a flea market.if anyone knows what julie is doing these days or if they know where i can buy any julie cds i'd appreciate it.i remember her doing "indi n rope man" on american tv in 1970.i miss the 60's and early 70's as a time when life felt positively electric.

Hi there. I was listening to my Chris Farlowe album just yesterday & wondered what ever happened to him. I have only one LP from 1965 called 'Chris Farlowe & The Thunderbirds'. I remember seeing him in the U.K. back in the '60's doing 'Out Of Time' on a T show which I think was called 'Ready, Steady, Go'. It is my opinion that Chris Farlowe was one of the most under rated singers in British pop music. I believe this even more so now, while I listen to his early material. Vocally, I preferred Chris to Eric Burdon (both great singers). Chris had a great band in the Thunderbirds. Who could fail NOT to be moved after hearing their version of 'Hound Dog' on their 1965 album? Strong, gutsy vocals from Chris, GREAT lead guitar work by Albert Lee with a really FU L sound from the rest of the band. I wish Chris & his band could have really made it. The guy had balls, & sang the line of every song as if he'd lived it himself. When he hit it with 'Out Of Time' I really thought he was on his way. Sadly it never happened. I am sure Chris still has a loyal following with fans of whom have never forgotten him, & I hope he continues to gain new one's of whom would hear him for the f rst time. I was born in London, moved to NZ in '67, & landed up in the states in '89. Not many people here know who Chris Farlowe is, or was. But one freind here in Texas who made a remark about Chris Farlowe the first time he heard him was the fact that e thought Chris was black. Yep...Chris Farlowe & the Thunderbirds....they were good!

Great!! I enjoyed very much to read about my old favourites. Especially those I never heard of since the mid 60´s. I wish I also could listen to some of the songs that I miss very much. Never been able to get them. Mojos, Applejacks.... Any tip about it?< r>

Excelent site but I noticed 1 error. In the Animals line up Alan Price hails from Fatfield not Fairfield.

You have done a great job with this site, it certainly brought back some memories for me. You have omitted one band from this era, The Birds whose hit single was Leavin Now. I too am curious about what happened to these guys. I was shocked to learn that Steve Marriott died, he had a tremendous voice. Ronnie Lane had cycstic Fibrosis and he made an album with Pete Townsend with tracks such a Annie, In the City etc. An uncle of mine was a session guitarist who worked with some of these bands Dave Clark, the Beatles etc,his name was Eric Ford who also worked with the show band Lord Rockinghams 11. By the way, Tony Jackson of the Searchers we t back to selling insurance after his solo career collapsed Thank you for the memories

Some great memories here, but I'd like to see a bit more detail on some of the lesser-known bands who played up here during that time. Hope you can get the information as soon as possible - I'll be checking back!!!
