The Coasters began life as Billy J. Kramer's backing band and as such were one of the most popular groups in Liverpool during the early 60's. They split with Kramer when he signed with Brian Epstein and turned professional at the end of 1962. Following Kramer's departure, they decided to carry on and began a search for a new vocalist.

In June 1963 they were joined by Chick Graham, then aged just fifteen. Decca signed the group and they finally made the leap into professionalism in 1964.

After the failure of their two singles, the group fell apart in the early months of 1965.
