Roy Wood - guitar (born 8th November 1946, Birmingham)

One of the leading Birmingham groups of their time. They were signed to EMI in 1963 following some auditions held in the area by producer Bob Barrett. Their version of Please Mr. Postman" was a huge local hit and sold over 70,000 but failed to make the national charts.

After the failure of this, their second single, Johnson left and Roy Wood was brought in. Further releases followed but chart success still eluded them.

In '65 they changed their name to Mike Sheridan's Lot and released two more singles, again without making any impression. In '66, Sheridan quit the band for a solo career (he later teamed up with Rick Price as "Sheridan - Price") and Roy Wood left to form The Move.

The remaining Nightriders recruited Jeff Lynne and eventually became Idle Race.
