"Thoughts of the Week"
“As a result of the advancing
technology and pervasive global competition, we, the Filipino workforce
esp. here in the UAE, must have the ability and the inclination to
diversify our learnings or skills in order to keep pace with the
constantly changing world.
As Filipinos, and as expatriates in the
foreign land, we should know the impacts of technological advancement that
are happening in the world today. Without knowing or understanding of its
impacts, I don’t know if we Filipinos are the workforce to reckon with. It
would be a disaster for all of us since we will be losing to other
nationalities in the long term.
Hence, there really is a critical
need for all of us to increase the level of our skills! Only then that we
can brighten and broaden our horizons!”

CALAMITY FUND DRIVE
FACE Supports Embassy Fund Drive
The Filipino Association for Computer Excellence (FACE),
under the auspices of the Consulate General / OWWA of the Philippines,
having volunteer works by providing free computer courses for our fellow
Filipinos, is extending hands through humanitarian help.
With the recent tragedy, wherein three consecutive
typhoons struck the Philippines, causing severe damage to humans and
properties, FACE is conducting a fund raising drive to send assistance to
those people suffered by this uncontrollable natural disaster.
In lieu of this, we would like to seek everyone for your
generous support for any monetary donation of any amount, as we pour in
the blessings for them during this Yuletide Season.
May God Bless You and more power.
We would like to thank the following for their
support:
FACE Execom - Dhs 800 Citibank - Dhs 600 Filipino
Assoc. of Um Al Quwain - Dhs 178 FACE Al Ain Chapter - Dhs 270
We are also supporting the project of the Philippines
Embassy in the UAE for their project on the "C-GMA - Classroom Galing sa
Mamamayang Pilipino Abroad". The objective of this project is to raise
fund to build a classroom in the Philippines.
Marami pong salamat.
New FACE Officers Sworn Into Office
Ambassador Inducting Officer; 143 Graduates
Honored
The Philippine Ambassador to UAE, His Excellency Libran
Nuevas Cabactulan was the Inducting Officer and Guest Speaker during the
Graduation Ceremony of the Filipino Association for Computer Excellence
(FACE) held on Friday, 10 Dec. 2004 at the open-air poolside of the
Jumeira Rotana Hotel in Satwa, Dubai.
Cabactulan was former Consul General of the Philippine
Consulate in Sydney, Australia. At the end of his tour of duty, he then
served in the Home Office and was assigned in the Office of Consular
Affairs as Executive Director for 10 months, and was transferred to the
Office of United Nations International Organizations (UNIO) for six months
until his current assignment in Abu Dhabi, UAE as Philippine Ambassador.
During the occasion, the Ambassador remarked, "Like
yourself, I’ve been a computer nerd myself before and even today. In fact,
when I was with the Department of Foreign Affairs in the Philippines years
back, I used to set up the networking/programming for the whole building.
Really I was surrounded with so much computers in my
office! You see even my wife joked that I have no time for her and that
I’m already married to my computers!
Computer Programming really interests me and now I will
be handling myself Computer Programming on Delphi in Abu Dhabi!"
He advised the graduates, “What you learn, you must use,
and the skills that you have acquired must be improved! You have a long
way to go, and there’ll be more rewards that will happen to you. Dedicate
your excellence in the service of your fellowmen, but don’t forget FACE
who gave you the knowledge, and above all don’t forget the Almighty one!”
The Ambassador also urged and requested everyone to help
support and share a dirham for a typhoon-battered Philippines. He said it
was recently discussed during his consultation meeting with the community
leaders in Dubai.

Engr. Roel Lubo, a Filipino IT Supervisor connected with
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Ibn Rashid Al Maktoom Engineers’ Office, was
the Resource Speaker during the night.
In his remarks to the graduates, he said, “I salute you
for your vision, sacrifices and motivations for you had chosen to spend
time in earning knowledge. But you have to continually enhance your skill
in this very competitive world. Perseverance combine with the right tool
can bring the difference. FACE has got that tool to help you enhance your
technological skills.”
Engr. Lubo further inspired the graduates by saying, “In
the global field, no doubt we are getting a greater piece of IT works and
recognition! For example a very dear and common friend of mine, Ms. Arlene
Bogal has bagged the prestigious IT Manager of the Year Award by besting
all the IT Managers in the gulf hoteliers category. One highlight is that,
