"??" is one of the children of the old city of Hebron. He
is 13 years old. He was seriously injured in the chest
after a soldier hurled a sound bomb at him which caused
third degree b1,1rns. This occurred while "??" was re-
turning home from the market, walking along a street
which he was accustomed to walking through every day.
He used to see the Israeli soldiers on the roofs of houses
a-nd in the alleyways. He was used to being stopped by
the soldiers or to be punched by one of them from time
to time. However, it did not occur to him that things
would develop as they did.
J aber was admitted to Alia Hospital on 11 July 1998, and
because of the seriousness of his condition he was trans-
ferred to Rafidia Hospital in Nablus, where he remained
for 25 days.
After "??" left the hospital, he came to visit the counsel-
ling program of DCI/PS in Hebron. Since that time, he
has been a friend of the program, where his case has
been followed up by a specialist working in the program.
The specialist described J abers condition, stating, He came
to our office suffering from several problems related to
severe fear, neurosis, inclination to loneliness, and in-
ability to sleep. We visited him in his house and we
became acquainted with his family. We succeeded in
making him talk about his problem. Today ,.he is a friend
of the program. He participates in all the general activi-
ties that we carry out.
"??" has still to overcome all of his problems, but his
situation is much better. He continues to come to the
counselling office every week or the social specialist
visits him at home.
