About Scammers and Hackers

There are a lot of scammers and hackers at Neopets. Too many. You really have to be carefull out there, because before you know, all your money is gone...
Well, it isn't so worse. There are a lot of things that you can do to not be one of the scammed or hacked people.

First, I'll tell you what's the difference between scammers and hackers.
A Scammer is somebody who rips you off with neopoints. For example: they let you pay 100,000 np to get their account. And when you payed the money, they're gone.
A hacker doesn't do this.. a hacker comes into your account to take away your neopoints/items/pets.

How not to be scammed

I bet you don't want to be scammed. You don't want to lose your nps and items, right? I understand that. To avoid scammers is quite easy. Just keep your eyes open all the time. If someone asks you to pay a high prize for something that isn't worth it, DON'T! This person is a scammer. Report this person asap to the Neopets Team. I'll tell you about the most common scams later.

How not to be hacked

To avoid hackers, that might be a bit more difficult. But still, not impossible. Don't tell anyone your password, and don't change your email to something different than your email. This is really important. A lot of people ask you for your password or ask you to change your email adress, but DON'T DO THIS!! Also, when you are surfing around the internet and see a log in page, check it out first if this is a real log in page, or a fake one. This is quite simple: check the url of the site. If this is http://www.neopets.com/whatever, you can log in. But if this is something else, DON'T!

Most Common Scams

There are a lot people who want to scam and hack you, and this is the most common message if them:

1. I'm really poor. I lost all my neopoints and my items because I got hacked/scammed. Please give me some nps or items. Whatever you can miss.
Just ignore those. They just want to get free nps of other people without doing something. They sometimes say "Or buy something from my shop too". Then if you visit the shop of this person, it has many overpriced junk items, for example a bottle of sand for 50,000 np. Don't buy something here.

2. I'm leaving neopets. I got many np and really good items in my account. If you want to have it, send me some expensive items or visit my trades and bid. The highest bid will get my account and it's nps and items.
No one can sell their account. That's against the rules of neopets. Why? If you bid a high price, for example 100,000 np on a bottle of sand, the scammer acceps your offer and they get your neopoints. And what do you get? The bottle of sand, nothing more.

3. I know a secret to get LOTS of nps!! just send me the following: any codestone (exept lu), any expensive petpet, a piece of the secret laboratory map, a non-solid paint brush and a faerie. Then send me a neomail with a list of what you sent me and I'll tell you the secret. THIS IS NOT A SCAM! If you don't believe me, that's your problem. I've been scammed before, and I know how it feels. If you don't believe me, you can report me.
THIS IS A SCAM AND DON'T BELIEVE THEM!!! They can also typ an other list with other expensive items. If the peron recieves your items, he/she gladly send them to an other account and doesn't tell you a secret or anything. THERE IS NO BIG SECRET TO GET A LOT OF NPS! Just play many games or follow the np tips on this page (or any other page).

4. The Neopoint Generator. This is a site that asks you for your username, password, and the amound of np you want. If you fill in this form, the makers of the "NP Generator" will get the information and can log in at your account. So don't fill in those forms. There is NO site that can give out free nps. REALLY!

5. Look what I found!! If you change your email adress to something@whatever.com, you'll get a lot of np every day! Just change your email adress and tell me when you changed it.
Or a bit different one:
I found something greats! I got a program that can give you free nps. This is no scam. All you have to do is change your email to something@whatever.com and tell me when it is done. Then I'll run the program and you'll be rich!
There is NO program to give out free nps! Also, if you change your email adress to something else, those hackers can get your password by typing your name at the "lost your password" at neopets. Then they'll recieve an email with your password and they can log in into your account. DON'T BELIEVE THEM!

6. I hacked into NeoPets.com, and now i can get anything i want and get every item! It's so cool! I'm really nice, so I'll help all of you ppl out there, too! Just neomail me with the password to your account, and i'll give you...1 million np!
Nobody can hack into the neopets system. The chances are so less that someone has hacked it, so don't believe anyone who does this. And by the way, if they hacked neopets, why would they ask for your password? They could find it themselves

At the end...

So keep in mind: there is NO program to give free nps, you must NEVER give out your password, NEVER change your email and NO accounts are for sale. Be sure you keep this in mind, change your password every week for extra security, and you don't get scammed or hacked.
