Miaka is still crying over Hotohori's death and blaming herself because she can't summon Suzaku. Tetsuya tells Miaka how summoning is not all it's cracked up to be and Yui may be devoured by the Beast God.
| Yui then calls Miaka and asks about Suboshi and Miaka tells her he's dead. Yui's a bit rattled then says she's going to school tomorrow and expects to see Miaka there.

As Miaka goes running off to school the next day, Keiske talks to Tamahome about his request for him to go back in the book without Miaka because it's upsetting the
equilibrium of both worlds (He's trying to sound smart here) He goes on about how Miaka and Tamahome care for each other but she was a middle school student with entrance exams before she became the Priestess. After Keiske's done his plea, Tamahome's smiling and says he'll write Miaka a letter letting her now he's leaving.
| Miaka and Yui are at school and sit on the ground to talk. Miaka gives Yui back her school uniform bow that she had given to Suboshi, which Miaka found on the ground near where Suboshi died. Yui says Nakago is the only
ally she has left to which Miaka tries to tell her that Nakago lies and she wasn't raped when she first entered the book. She explains why she didn't hear Yui's cry for help and how Nakago used Yui's doubt to increase the resentment Yui had towards her. Miaka then gives Yui a letter written by Ensukei Ekouta (sorry about the spelling) who is the original owner of the Universe of the Four Gods, to his friend, Mr Osugi.

Yui reads the letter which describes how Ekouta found the book which pulled his daughter, Takito in. She became the Priestess of Genbu and was slowly being devoured by the Beast God with every wish. He decided to end her suffering by killing her, then killing himself. He also wanted to destroy the book, but it wouldn't burn. Ekouta felt the book was waiting for the remaining priestesses to follow. He asked Osugi to seal the
book away, but he was unable to. Osugi's daughter, Suzuno, was then pulled in to become the Priestess of Byakko. Miaka tells Yui that if her heart strong and true like Suzuno's, then she won't be devoured. Yui wouldn't believe it, so she took off in the typical Yui huff.
We cut to Yui talking to herself about how Miaka has to be lying or all the fighting has been for nothing, and there was never any reason to hate Miaka so. Yui then looks at her arm which is covered in scales, and wonders if Nakago knew that this would happen.

Next, we're back in the book, where the evil emperor and two advisors are running in the palace. He then runs into his prized warrior, Nakago, surrounded by a bunch of dead palace guards. Nakago glares and the advisors take off running leaving the emperor to question if Nakago has really betrayed him. Nakago tells him that he never swore
allegiance to him, to which the emperor starts begging for his life, offering gold, and even position as emperor, but Nakago isn't interested.
The emperor goes on to say that he treated Nakago well ever since he first arrived, to which Nakago shoves his fist through the emperor's chest and tells him he now knows the humiliation that he and his people had to suffer through under his reign.
The emperor is then blasted into dust. A couple of Nakago's soldiers come running in , and Nakago tells them to kill the emperor's family, ministers, and noblemen. One soldier asks Nakago how his shoulder was and he tells him not to trouble himself with it. He then scoops up Soi's lifeless body, which he still carries with him, and says he has to go attend to another debt he's owed, which will be the finishing touch.

We're back to the real world and Miaka talking to herself about keeping the faith in Yui. She then takes off running as she realizes that Tamahome is going to go back in the book without her.
She runs into her room to find Tamahome in his armour again. They discuss him going back and how he belongs in the book and she belongs in the real world. He goes on babbling about
fate and destiny truly wanting them together, then maybe there might be another him in Miaka's world. Miaka says she's only happy with him, only loves him, and that he's real to her, she even promises to learn to cook if he stays. So Tamahome decides to having a wedding ceremony, just the two of them. |
Yui is wandering the streets in a haze, muttering Nakago did he know, when she hears his voice calling her name and sees a flash of light in front of her.

We go back to Tamahome and Miaka exchanging rings that she bought the day before at a little store. She describes the ceremony rituals and Tamahome declares them married. As they kiss it pans to Keiske reading about the wedding in the book. He decides to give them a few more minutes alone.
Back to Yui... Yui's standing in complete shock as Nakago slowly appears before her eyes.

Back to Miaka and Tamahome... as they are hugging, Tamahome senses Nakago's presence, and Keiske starts yelling about trouble and Nakago is here with Yui.
Nakago starts asking Yui about if she's happy to see him since she did call for him and he says he's there to help. She asks Nakago to tell her truth about if she was raped or not, and if he made her and Miaka enemies to serve his own purpose. He comes back by
saying it was she who made her and Miaka enemies, he just helped release it, and that she should be
grateful to him for saving her before she was raped, and he is here now to collect the wish she promised him. Yui yells at him for saying he loved her when he didn't then runs off.

Back in Miaka's room, Miaka and Keiske are staring at the open window that Tamahome left through. Keiske states the obvious about how Nakago will kill Tamahome without his powers. Miaka then takes off running after Tamahome.
Yui is running down the street, trips, falls, and sees scales on her legs. She gets up screaming and ready to run again when she's grabbed by Tamahome and flips out until she realizes it's him. She tells him that Nakago only wants Seiryu's power and an energy blast is fired at them, hitting a lamp post. Yui passes out and Nakago emerges from the dust cloud. He asks quite politely for Tamahome to hand Lady Yui over
to him (said please and everything), but Tamahome declines the offer.

Nakago then goes into typical villain mode and tells Tamahome his evil plan of becoming a god so he can control the fate of men. Tamahome tells him that his
vengeance won't work because they weren't created to live in the real world. Nakago replies that he doesn't care and goes into some speech about how the
person who created him is his own personal god and he'll become a god and control others. @_@ Tamahome says he won't let him and he'll have to do it over his dead body.
Nakago's symbol starts to glow and taunts Tamahome by asking if he really believes he can stop him since Tamahome doesn't have the power of Suzaku. Nakago then levitates a few feet, a light shield forms around him and his symbol releases an energy blast that destroys some buildings around them. They start to fight, with Tamahome never coming close to hitting Nakago as he's moving way fast. Nakago comes up behind Tamahome and
blasts him to the ground a few feet away.

Nakago looks back at the unconscious Yui and tells her it won't take him long to finish off this little brat and for her to please wait for him there until he is ready.
(Quite a funny line seeing as Nakago sounds so serious and Yui is
unconscious and unlikely to hear him let alone move anywhere) Tamahome gets to his feet and his wedding ring sparkles. He says he's glad he got to tell Miaka that he loved her one last time and to forgive him if he dies.
Miaka's still running along the road to the fire and action, the whole time chanting Tamahome's name and not wanting him to leave her.

Nakago then taunts Tamahome again by saying to come and get him if he can, and Tamahome starts charging at him while doing that battle scream of his.
End of Episode Forty-nine

Unconscious Yui that I wanted to share but didn't really have room to throw in
to the summary.
See, she's not moving anytime soon but Nakago still talks to her as if she was
awake.
