FALCONE FANTAILS
V I E W S    &    G O A L S
This portion of my web sight is not to create controversy but simply to state my opinions on the modern fantail and where I am heading or simply aiming for. It is very common to hear people from all different parts of the the globe stating "This is what I am aiming for!" or "I think this is what it should be like!" If you really think about it, it's actually kind of weird. How can we have so many different opinions on what the Ideal Fantail is supposed to look like, when there is only one Standard. I do know one thing and that is what I am aiming for in the IDEAL FANTAIL and sometimes it is very hard for other breeders to change my view on what I feel it should look like, not always a good thing to be closed minded but I do highly beleive in being focussed on the IDEAL and not follow TRENDS.....ie.....Big Tails......Deeeeeeep head settings...etc. I hope you enjoy this part and it will be interesting to hear opinions on opinions.....hope you enjoy!
"FF TIPS".....When studying the Standard for the IDEAL FANTAIL.....make sure there is NOT a fantail sitting front of you!
How Important is TAIL SETTING?......
Many people in the fancy have seen "FF Babes" and know how good of a fantail she is, for those of you who havn't seen her I will give you a quick description to give you some kind of an idea on sizes and ratios....Height 5 1/2 inches....Tail width 11 3/4.... Toptail approximately 3 1/2+......she is a prime example of not  needing  that 14" tail, but rather concentrating on placement of that tail.... notice the height of the front cussion relative to the floor....that is where toptail is made.....this location of tail will be directly related to headsetting....to me deeeeeep headsettings are a negative when aiming for that ROUND Fantail, I like to see headsetting deep enough so you cannot see the head from the front view and thats it!.... NO DEEPER.... it is amazing to me on how much tail setting would affect "Babes" Beleive me I have to lace her  in a certain manner or else.....no toptail.....slightly coarser lower wings....upright......Just for curiosity, visually move the tail....W?hat would happen to everyting else?
"FF TIPS"....What is Round?......sounds silly but it kind of looks like a ball .....Remember if it is 6 inches tall....it should be 6 inches deep.....and 6 inches wide....Oh yah!.....This measurement is only in the center....the sides are less...possibly around 5 1/2 inches......Otherwise it is square!
Can we acheive ROUND?......
Let me introduce you to "FF NV" she is quite the specimen, and incase some of you are wondering, these photos are  not in any way shape or form modified. I did have my concerns about this part of the standard....because I felt it was not acheivable....just like I had mentioned before....do that to a human and then let him support all that weight, roll him up and tell him to have balance.......NOT!....I have had many discussion with Breeders about the possibilities, and now I know that it can be done.....will we see this our lifetime.....I hope so because "NV" is only one inch from being round when being viewed from the front......by far not only the roundest fantail that I have ever bred.....the roundest fantail I have ever seen. One other note about this fantail is that her refinement is second to none, note the angle of the wingline as compared to the floor....her wing tips just clear the floor and her wings are one and part of her body to conform to that part of the Standard ROUND when viewed from all angles.

"FF NV"
For those of you who know me, know that probably one of the biggest pet peeves I have is coarse wings/looseness of the wings.....I can't stand it....if they have it they are culled...I do highly beleive that roundness of the body starts there, the must be tight fitting and have no separation from the body right to end of their flights, NV shows that this can be done and I do beleive that Round from all views can and will be acheived, but we must understand what round is first. When it comes to making them round those wing faults come first in selective breeding. My order of importance for wing/body refinement is, #1 Wing Thicknes, #2 Wing Line/Angle, #3 Wing Width.....oh there is a #4 but I havn't done this part yet and that is Wing Location....can we move it more towards the cussion?.....Time will tell!
