Allison hopped out of her mustang and took off her sunglasses. She had just arrived at school, and there were people and cars all around. Even though it was crowded and noisy, it was something that Allison had missed a whole lot. Putting her purse over the shoulder and flipping her hair, Allison started to walk into the school, repaired with what was going to be bombarded at her from every angle – Backstreet Boys questions.
Walking down the student filled halfway, Allison made her way to her locker. She smiled as many popular boys said hi to her. Maybe it won’t be so hard to get over Nick at all . . . Allison thought.
However, Allison never completely arrived at her locker. Girls got to her first.
“Allison Allison Allison!” Lacey Miller shouted, running in Allison’s direction, followed by at least 10 other girls. “How was the trip!?”
“Yeah give us the dibs Ali!” Stacie said over Lacey’s shoulder.
“Everything!” A girl giggled in the background.
Allison flashed a smile to the girls. “It was . . . fun.”
“Fun? Just fun? Allison please, we know it was much more than that!”
“I guess. It was great.” Allison turned her head from the excited girls that were growing more and more numerous by the second, and spun the lock on her locker.
“Were they super cute like always?”
“Did you get their autographs?”
“Were they nice? Or were they mean?”
“Pictures? Where are the pictures? You took pictures right?”
“Tell me about Nick!”
Everywhere there were people shouting Backstreet Boys’ questions in Allison’s fragile ears. She couldn’t take it anymore. She had absolutely no desire to talk or think about those guys.
“I um . . .” Allison started trying to calm the girls around her down. “I’m not really in the mood to talk about this. Can we talk another time?”
Not waiting for an answer, Allison pushed her way through the startled faces. She ran to the first place she could think of – Nadia’s locker.
“Finally.” Allison said, leaning on the locker next to her friend.
“Hey girl!” Nadia beamed. “Long time no see, eh?”
“Yeah I know, it’s been forever.” Allison grinned. “What’s up?”
“Same old thing. What about you? Tell me . . .”
Allison groaned. “Not you too!”
“What?”
“Nothing . . . it’s just that so many people have come up to me asking questions. “Backstreet Boys this, Backstreet Boys that, it’s never going to stop, I swear.”
“What did you expect after living every girls dream?” Nadia laughed. “Everyone wants to know what it was like. After all, you are going out with Nick Carter.”
“Correction.” Allison held up her finger to quiet Nayda. “I was going out with Nick Carter. Emphasis on the was.”
“Come again?”
“I’m not going out with Nick. We broke up. It wasn’t working.”
“Allison your crazy.” Nadia’s face was blank, and her mouth was hanging open. “He . . . he . . .”
“He was a regular dirty, mean guy.” Allison finished for her confused friend. “He was a cheater. He was an asshole. He was a pervert. He was an untrustworthy pig. He was stuck on himself. As I said, he was a guy.”
Nadia put her hands to her head. “I don’t understand you Ali. You get the coolest, hottest guy ever, and you throw him away.”
“I didn’t throw him away!” Allison shouted. “I wasn’t the crazy one! Well, maybe I was, because he threw me away Nadia. He cheated on me.” Tears came to Allison’s eyes, and she quickly brushed them away. “He . . . he broke my heart Nadia, and, and I hate him.”
Nadia quickly put her arm around Allison’s shaking shoulders and hugged her. “Do you wanna talk about it?”
“No.”
“You sure? I bet it would make you feel better.”
Allison sighed and Nayda knew that she had convinced her. “It started like this. Nick and I were, were at this club, and everything was cool. ::Sniff:: But when I turned my back for a second . . . he hooked up with his old girlfriend Mandy that he had never really dumped in the first place. And then after about a week the sick puppy crawled back to me and said sorry and all that, and, and I believed that he was truly sorry and I went back to him.”
“That’s great!”
“No.” Allison shook her head, and wiped away another tear. “It wasn’t all right. Nick isn’t exactly a trusting guy Nadia. He, he . . . I saw him making out with Mandy just a few minutes later . . .” Allison whispered, hanging her head.
“Oh Allison . . .” Nadia coaxed.
“I’m fine though. I’m just fine.”
“You don’t look it Ali.”
“I am. Trust me. Why would I be upset over someone like Nick?”
Nadia gave Allison a look. “Because he’s a great guy, and you love him.”
“Don’t say who I love and do not love. I should be the one to know. And I didn’t . . . well I don’t.”
“Well no use crying then. Don’t cry over someone unless you want them back.”
“Fine.”
“Fine.”
After a few seconds of silence, Nadia piped up. “Well how ‘bout coming to the Basketball game after school? It will be good for you. You know, get out; go back to the normal life. Check out some really fine guys . . .”
Allison sneaked a grin. “I dunno . . . I . . .”
“You’re going.” Nadia said.
Allison signed. “What time?”
Allison and her group of friends walked into their school’s large gym. Tons of students were gathered around, waiting for the boy’s game to start. Some were sitting in the stands, and some were standing around outside. It was a great atmosphere, and music was blasting from the speakers, trying to pump up the crowd. But from the looks of things, this crowd didn’t need any help with sprit. It was a huge game, against their rivals, Demacus.
“Lets go sit down guys.” One of Allison’s friends Mary said, already on her way over to the stands.
The girls followed Mary, and on the way over many people said hi to Allison. It seemed like more people were interested in talking to her now that she had met the Backstreet Boys. Like she could introduce them or something. But I’ll never see them again. Allison thought. She wasn’t sure if that was a good or bad thing.
“And here come the wildcats!” The announcer shouted as the basketball team came running out of the locker room. The crowd screamed excitedly as the boys’ team jogged around the court, dribbling and shooting their basketballs. Allison couldn’t help but stare at Mark. He looked so good, even better than he had when Allison had left on the tour. His muscles clearly stood out whenever he made a move, and his face had that sexy look of complete concentration, that Allison loved.
“Mark is looking fine.” Allison whispered over to Nadya and Kathy.
“Yeah I know!” Nadia said, sneaking a look at Mark.
“Well I heard that he was going to ask Lisa Rulles to Prom. But if it wasn’t for her, he would definitely go with you.” Kathy said with an understanding look.
“And if it wasn’t for Nick.” Allison whispered under her breath. “But I’m so over him it’s not even funny.” Allison answered, rolling her eyes. “There are like so many more guys than him.”
“Yeah.” Nadia and Kathy said together, nodding their heads.
Allison turned her head back to the game that was starting. Mark is going to ask Lisa Rulles to prom? Allison thought worriedly. Even though she had been gone for two weeks, and had kinda dumped Mark over the phone, Allison had never really thought that Mark would find or like anyone else. She always figured that he would be there for her to go places with . . . like prom.
Everyone in the gym screamed as the Wildcats made another basket. The game was really close, 75-73, and the Wildcats were making a late come back with 30 seconds left in the game. They had been losing all game, and this was the closest that they had ever gotten to taking the lead. Everything was very tense, and everyone was nervous that their team would lose this game that meant so much to the school. The time out was done, and the teams had to come back onto the floor.
“Go Team, lets do it!” The happy cheerleaders squeaked, jumping up and down.
Yeah. Allison thought, her hand to her mouth. Come on guys, win this one.
John Laster passed the ball to Mark and Mark took the ball quickly down the court, using his great moves to slide past the defenders. Allison could see the worriedness in his eyes as he tried to find someone to pass to. But there was no one open. They could lose!
10 . . . 9 . . . 8 . . . 7 . . . 6 . . . 5 . . . 4, the seconds ticked down.
All of a sudden Mark shot the ball from the 3-point area. He leaped into the air and let the ball slide out of his hands. Everyone in the crowd became silent as the buzzer rang, ending the game.
Swish
In a split second the crowd burst out into happy screams. Mark had made the basket! They won the game!
All the team members rushed out to the floor and buried Mark, jumping up and down excitedly.
“Yay Mark!” Allison found herself yelling along with the rest of the students.
“That was so awesome!” Nadia said with a smile. “Mark is so great!”
“He sure hasn’t lost his game while I was gone.” Allison said watching him closely.
“Yeah really!” Kathy added. “No guy compares to him!”
Allison couldn’t help agreeing with Kathy. Mark was well . . . perfect.
Soon the Basketball teams had shook hands and got all of their stuff ready for to go change. As the team passes by the stands, the crowd cheered and started chanting Mark’s name. “M-ark, M-ark.” Mark looked up at the stands, and suddenly this eyes found Allison’s and starred at her for a second. Then he smiled at her and nodded his head. Allison felt her heart jump out of her throat. Did, did Mark just smile at me? Allison asked herself, grinning. She hoped so. She wanted to have things the way they used to be between them. But not with Lisa in the way.
“Hey Allison!” Kathy called. “Allison?”
Allison’s head quickly snapped up.
“Finally girl. I’ve been calling you for like ever.”
“Um . . . sorry I must have been day dreaming.” Allison admitted.
“Well come on.” Nadya said standing up. “We are going to get a ride over to Nikki’s house. She’s having a party.”
“Awesome I’ll come.”
“Great. Let’s go chica’s.”
