Chapter Twenty One

Allison slammed the door of Kathy’s car shut and smoothed out her tank top. She was right in front of Nikki Martin’s house, and there was already about half of the whole senior class there partying. It was a huge home; it could almost be a mansion!

“Jesus!” Kathy exclaimed. “There are so many people here already! Now we won’t be able to get into a good conversation! Thanks for driving so slow Nadia.

“Take a chill pill Kathy.” Nadia shouted, rolling her eyes. “A lot of these people didn’t even go to the game, and plus, most of them speeded here. I wouldn’t be surprised if only 50% of them got tickets.”

“Well next time I’m driving.”

Allison sighed. She loved Nadia and Kathy, she really did, but sometimes they were just too much! All they did was fight about something; it was a miracle that the two of them were even friends. But Allison didn’t wanna be any later for the party than they were. She didn’t want to miss a second of the gossip that would be going around about Mark . . . and about her.

“Let’s like, go guys.” Allison pepped up. “Enough fighting. Tell ya what – I’ll drive next time.”

Finally Nadia and Kathy stopped fighting and the three girls were soon on their way.

As soon as they stepped inside loud music blasted in their ears, and tons of people were gathered in the hallways.

“Hey guys!” Nikki shouted over the noise, coming up to the girls. “Glad you could make it!”

“Well, we would have been here sooner if it wasn’t for somebody . . .” Kathy growled.

“Shut up!” Nadia said as she hit Kathy’s arm.

“Ow! That hurt!”

“Well you deserved it.”

Allison signed once more. “Guys.”

“Sorry.” The two girls said.

“It ok. Hey! I see Ellen and them over there. Let’s go talk.”

Allison, Nadia, and Kathy all strutted over to the group of girls that were gathered in Nikki’s family room. They all were chatting up a storm, and Allison was hungry for some good old talk. After all, she didn’t exactly get a lot of fun gossip with the Backstreet Boys.

“Hey guys.” Allison said.

“Hey!” They all said.

“We are in da house!” Nadia danced around the table, carrying pop cans in her hands and passing them about the group. “The party can now began!”

“Whatever Naad.” Christie laughed. “What’s up with you guys?”

“Nothing much.” Allison said sitting down, holding her bottle. “Same old thing.”

“So I bet all the guys here seem like ugly freaks of nature after you’ve been with the Backstreet Boys.” Jean whispered.

Allison grinned. “Well . . . not really . . .”

“Come on I bet they looked fine.”

“Well, they are regular people without their make-up, sorry to break it to you guys.”

“Still, really fine regular guys."

“Ali you thought they were hot!” Nadia shouted out. “You were with . . .”

Nadia stopped talking when Allison gave her an evil eye.

“Nadia!” Allison did not want the girls to know about her and Nick, not at all. They would get on her case and all.

“What was that?!” Christie asked, along with the mumbles of the others.

“Nothing.” Allison tried to cover up, but her red face burned through.

“Nothing? Who did you hook up with Allison? Come on, you can tell us.”

“I, I . . .”

Allison looked at the faces of her friends that pleaded to find out about what happened and could hardly keep back the secret. After all, they would find out about it soon enough, and plus, it wasn’t like it was embarrassing to have dated Nick. “I . . . kinda . . . kindawentoutwithNickCarter.”

Everyone’s faces were blank as they all soaked up the words that Allison had just told them.

One girl screamed.

One girl laughed.

One girl fainted.

They all started asking questions at once.

“Whoa! Oh, my God Allison you lucky bitch!” Stacie shouted. “Tell us all about it!”

“How far did u go with him?”

“Why didn’t you tell us before?”

“Was it great?”

“Nick is so hot! Is he not the hottest thing ever?!”

Allison put her head in her hands. She knew she should have been prepared for this. “It was nothing guys, really. Anyways, we spilt up.”

“So. That’s not the point.”

Everything was quiet in the group for a few seconds, although you could hear the whispering of the girls, who were talking about Allison and Nick.

All of a sudden the door opened and cheers could be heard. Allison turned her head sharply to see who was coming into the house. It was the basketball team.

“Hey hey hey everyone!” John, one of the players’ shouted. “We have arrived!”

Everyone gathered around the team, congratulating them on a great game.

Allison turned her head to Laura, Janet, and Ashley, some of the slutyist girls in school, who were talking over in a corner, while looking over at the basketball team and pointing.

“Mark is so hot isn’t he?” Janet said gazing at Mark, who was surrounded by girls.

“Yeah I know. I’m so glad that he’s available again.”

“Finally he’s away from Allison. Jeez, he could have given us a chance while with her. Hasn’t he ever heard about cheating? I like that quality in someone else’s boyfriend.” Ashley giggled.

Allison’s attention was immediately transferred to the three girls. Whatever they had to say about Mark, she wanted to hear.

“But now for once he is without a date to prom, only the biggest dance of our high school career. And I’m going to snag him.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure Janet.” Laura said. “Look at all the girls around him. They all have the same plan as you do.”

“So what? I’m much prettier than any of those bitches.”

Allison wanted to plug her ears and not listen to anymore of what they were saying. Those girls’ remarks made her realize that Mark wasn’t hers anymore. She never really noticed that more girls than normal were around Mark, but now Allison knew that it was because they all wanted to score a date with him. This was such an unusual feeling to Allison. Mark was the one that was suppost to be with her. But I have to get over Mark. Allison thought to herself, swallowing. Him and me aren’t “together” anymore. I have to remember that. Let everyone surround him. See if I care.

Allison got up and walked to the kitchen, were Nikki had set out refreshments for people to munch on. Taking a glass of coke, she leaned against the ledge and watched some of the guy’s play a game of Nintendo. It wasn’t a very exciting game.

“Hey Allison.” A low voice from behind her said. It was a sound very familiar to Allison. It, it was . . .

“H-Hi Mark.” Allison said turning around.

“What’s up Ali?”

“Nothing much. You know, same old thing.” Allison mumbled, playing with her glass and trying not to make eye contact with Mark.

“Oh. I saw you at the game, and I just wanted to come and say hey and stuff.”

“Yeah I was there. It was great. You did a good job.”

“Thanks.” Mark smiled. Allison almost melted at the sight of his smile. “So . . . really. How are you Allison? We haven’t talked since . . .”

“Yeah . . . I know. I’m fine. You?”

“Fine. I um, heard that you went out with that Nick Carper guy.”

“Carter. It’s Carter. And yeah . . . I um, I mean no I mean, I mean yeah I he, um, liked me. Jeez news gets around fast here.” Allison blushed.

“Well of course he would like you, you’re beautiful. I mean, who wouldn’t fall for you?"

“Stop.” Allison hit Mark softly on the arm and her face turned even redder. “You know I hate complements.”

“I know.” Mark leaned against the table, and crossed his arms. “But I forgive you . . . about that Nick thing.”

“I’m glad. But I guess it doesn’t really matter anymore uh?”

“What do you mean ‘it doesn’t matter’, of course it does.”

“Really?” Allison looked up into Mark’s eyes. A flicker of hope flashed in her head. Is Mark saying that he still likes me? Is he willing to give me another chance? “Yeah. I missed you a lot Allison.”

“I . . . I missed you too. I’m sorry I –“

However, Allison never got to finish her sentence. Mark leaned forward and pushed his lips onto hers. His hands slid around Allison’s thin waist and pulled her close to him. Allison didn’t think about anything but Mark’s presence or his tongue entertwining with hers. She didn’t even care that everyone in the whole room was watching Mark and herself. Allison didn’t even care about all the girls that were having their fantasies of prom vanish into thin air. All she cared about was that Mark still cared about her.

Softly Mark broke away and whispered into Allison’s ear: “Would you be my date to the prom?”

Allison didn’t even have to thing twice, and flung her arms around Mark’s neck. “Yes.” She whispered back.

Allison couldn’t hold back her smiles as she sat there in Mark’s arms, finally having all the missing pieces in her life come together.
