It's a sad reality that alot of the country's most talented people end up migrating to
to other countries. We like to applaud ourselves when a Trini "makes it big" but steups when someone like VS Naipaul dedicates the Nobel Prize to Great Britain.
The crux of the matter is that not enough is being done to educate the youths of Trinidad and Tobago, and the reality is that after you get your CXC's you better know people with connections, Sell Fruit,Vegetables,Weed ,Cocaine, your body or be extremely rich to Survive.
The Modern Secondary School is the equivalent of a Jail house. Students are not there to learn they are just there to pass time, The teachers can be compared to likes of wardens or babysitters. There are some students who simply refuse to learn by not bringing their text books, be it they are too poor or just ignorant. so do the mathematics.

The Decadence of the modern youth can be attributed to the following factors: Failure of Parents and those in Authority to realise there is a problem(and to take the necessary steps to solve it), a decline in the belief of religion (which instils the modus operandi of a nation),Negative Calypso/Soca and Reggae Music, Worshipping of American Television/Culture ,a lack of Universities and a lack of public funding towards youth orientated programmes( the ones that develop the mind with valuable skills).
What should have been done along with building the National Library was the building of additional libraries in all the counties according to the town/village or simply making community centres more than just a place to have town meetings. This modern community centre would function as part Library,Internet cafe and educational centre for children young adults, adults and the elderly. |
