About the Company

The Young People's Teen Musical Theater Company is a performing arts company sponsored by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and is based at the Randall Museum. The company was conceived by its director Diane Price in 1984 with a cast of nine performers. Today, YPTMTC is a fifty member performing arts company with a musical director, choreographer, a summer workshop program, and free year round instruction in drama, voice, acting, and dance for San Francisco teens. Many alumni of YPTMTC have pursued careers in performing arts and are now working with professional companies such as the American Conservatory Theatre, Brekeley Rep., Beach Blanket Babylon, the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, and the African American Shakespeare Company. Other alumni are performing on Broadway in productions of Cats and Miss Saigon as well as Los Angeles and many local and professional theatre companies. Many have been granted scholarships and have graduated from universities and conservatories such as Julliard, Eastman, U.C.L.A., U.C. Berkeley, The Boston Conservatory, N.Y.U., Carnegie Mellon, and more. The program has helped teens get in touch with who they are and has given them self esteem, as well as direction. "It's been a labor of love," says the director, Diane Price.
