If I Could Take My Children There
My father's picture hangs on the wall
His dear face speaks to me of love.
Those features were unique, as I recall:
With keen blue eyes, shaggy brows above.
His pride was in a thatch of silvery hair
A Roman nose, an attribute of grace
And mustache always neatly trimmed with care.
I gaze upon the dear, beloved face.
If I could turn the pages back in time
Relive those precious days of youth
In family home so simple and sublime
(Enchanting visions of the truth) --
Oh, If I could, I'd take my children there
To that past day that they might know
His love, his life and times, to let them share
This someone that I lost so long ago.
In memory of my father - Richard Osmer Luke
