Italy under Berlusconi. |
Silvio Berlusconi, the current millionairre Prime Minister of Italy owns 96 percent of the country's media and is supported in government by the far-right Alleanza Nazionale, described by Red Pepper magazine as 'the direct descendents of Benito Mussolini's black shirts.' At the G8 summit in 2001 where sleeping protesters were viciously beaten and tortured by the italian military police (Carabanieri), Berlusconi's right-hand man - Gianfranco Fini - and 4 other Alleanza Nazionale MPs were present in the Carabanieri HQ. A member of the Carabanieri went on record to La Republica saying: 'I still have in my nostrils the stench of those hours, that of the faeces of the arrested who weren't allowed to use the toilets... they (the Carabanieri) lined them up against a wall. They urinated on one person. They beat people up if they didn't sing Facetta Nera (a fascist song). They threatened to rape girls with their batons.' Berlusconi has reported links with the Mafia and has been accused repeatedly of bribary and corruption. Judge Paolo Borsellino was assassinated weeks after having accused Berlusconi of involvement in the heroin trade. Meanwhile, Tony Blair continues to meet with this foul, nazi corrupter of a nation. |
