Reynolds Family

Summer 2000

Sunday, July 2, 2000--Nate's birthday; off with the Botts to see The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Sunday, July 9, 2000--off to Camp Nelson, CA...about 38 miles east of Porterville, at an elevation of 4,800 feet. We spent a week at the Roberts's cabin. Fishing, hiking, and bicycle riding were part of the adventure. This cabin and others are available for rent through Mountain Realty.

Sunday, July 16, 2000--we cleaned the cabin and headed home. It was good to see Jason and "catch up". Jason now works for Save Mart supermarkets. He wasn't able to join us for the Camp Nelson nor the Anacortes adventures.

Monday, July 17, 2000--wash clothes, do chores, and get ready to leave to visit family and friends enroute to Anacortes, WA.

Tuesday, July 18, 2000--at 10:30 A.M. we were on the road--destination, Weed, CA. We stopped for gasoline and lunch in Madera, CA. Next gas stop was just south of Redding, CA, in Cottonwood. We had dinner in Anderson and arrived @ the motel in Weed, CA at 9:00 P.M. We stayed at the Best Inn in Weed. Our room and the service were very nice!

Wednesday, July 19, 2000--following breakfast at the motel, we continued north. We stopped briefly in Yreka to see the Blue Goose--a steam engine and train that travels from Yreka to Montague (Wednesday through Sunday during the Summer) on the Yreka Western Railroad. The train was out of operation last year when we were through, but it's been funded by a local group and the "Rocky Mountain Railway & Mining Museum".

A couple of hours on up the road, we paused in Grants Pass, OR and took a quick look at the jetboat excursion that journeys up the Rogue River. We didn't have time for the trip, but bought the video. If what we see on video is as good as some say it is, we'll try to work it in on our return trip.

Next stop, Newberg, OR. It was good to visit with Doug, April, Jessica and James Kilcup, relax, and see the new Kinkade pantings at Whites' Gallery.

Thursday, July 20, 2000--we relaxed @ the Travelodge in Newberg, OR (Travelodge has a website for kids.) We were able to be with James and the Kilcups for James's last baseball game of the season--Newberg v. Aloha.

Friday, July 21, 2000--on the road again. Itinerary today--Newberg to Anacortes, WA. Left the Travelodge in Newberg about 10:00 A.M. We traveled from Newberg to Portland, ate lunch in Kelso, then continued northward on I-5 to Olympia, Tacoma and onward to Seattle. Traffic moved well until we reached the Express Lanes, downtown Seattle. At that point things s-l-o-w-e-d d-o-w-n and continued at that speed until we were north of Everett. We arrived in Anacortes @ about 5:30 P.M.

Saturday, July 22, 2000--it was good to relax...we didn't have to drive...drive...drive. Nate and I got grandma's computer back on the Internet. We were able to check our email and I was able to do some research on BC ferries and a possible trip to Keats Camps, Keats Island, BC. Kirk Potter (camp director) and I went to college/seminary and sailed together. It's been 20 to 25 years since we've seen each other. Hope to connect on Wednesday or Thursday.

Sunday, July 23, 2000--another day to sleep in:-) Today we're celebrating David Bott (Cindy's sister's son) and Andrea's 10th birthdays! David's birthday is today; Andrea's is later this week. Cindy and I found an AM/FM radio kit and golf balls for David. He was happy about receiving both.

Monday, July 24, 2000--today the movie Chicken Run is on the agenda. We'll drive over to Mt. Vernon/Burlington to see it. We ate dinner at the "Outback Steakhouse"--good food!

Tuesday, July 25, 2000--today Cindy and I drive to Gig Harbor to meet with Dr. Steven Davis. Left Anacortes @ 8:45 A.M. and arrived at the ferry dock on Whidbey Island just in time to wait an hour for the next ferry:-( The crossing was beautiful; it included a brief celtic harp concert by Mr. David Michael.

We spent about 5 hours in Gig Harbor, then began our return trip. We arrived back in Port Townsend and caught the ferry with 2 minutes to spare; an answer to prayer. Wednesday, July 26, 2000--change in plans...spent the night tonight in Mount Vernon. Today Thomas and the Magic Railway came out in the theater today...we weren't able to see it, yet.

Thursday, July 27, 2000--went to Tacoma today...visited Wild Waves/Enchanted Village in Federal Way (not to be confused with the Enchanted Forest in Salem, OR.) Ate dinner at the Chuck E. Cheese in Tacoma. Jason and Nate visited this place every year as they were growing up and the Kilcup family lived in Tacome and Gig Harbor; Andrea doesn't remember it and this was Kristen's first visit:-).

Friday, July 28, 2000--today we journeyed a LONG 10-to-12 hours from Tacoma to Weed. Tomorrow we plan to ride the "Blue Goose" on the Yreka Western Railroad from Yreka to Montague.

Saturday, July 29, 2000--today we rode the Blue Goose train, went through McCloud, home of the McCloud Railway, visited McArthur-Burney State Park, Lassen Park and lodged in Paradise, CA. We're enjoying the hospitality of the Best Inns/Suites/Hotels

Sunday, July 30, 2000--original plan was to spend the night @ the Best Inn in Weed. Due to the change in plan, we're in Paradise, CA and heading home:-)Left Paradise, CA at 11:00 A.M.. We ate lunch @ The Olive Garden restaurant in Modesto, CA. We arrived home in Porterville at 6:00 P.M.

Monday, July 31, 2000--home, relaxing, cleaning up from the trip, updating this webpage and planning the balance of the summer...

Tuesday, August 1, 2000--Kristen and Steve went to see THOMAS AND THE MAGIC RAILROAD.

Friday, August 11, 2000--Steve, Cindy, Andrea and Kristen left for Carlsbad, CA.

Saturday, August 12, 2000--We visited Legoland, USA. What a place! I could have spent another day in the "Technics & Mindstorm" section.

Sunday, August 13, 2000--We drove home--300+ miles via I-15, Palmdale, Lancaster, Mojave and Bakersfield. Ate dinner @ "John's Incredible Pizza" in Bakersfield.
