Fall 2001
The last couple of months have been a bittersweet time for fans. America
experienced the worse terrorist attack ever. Our hearts were broken but
not our spirit, and we proudly stuck together as Americans and friends.
Our foreign Webbies also stood by us during this difficult time.
After the incident back in September, our site was temporarily shut down
out of respect for the victims, a special page was set up in remembrance
and a special letter from Mr. Steven Culp was posted.
Fans of Mr. Culp also rallied together to raise money for a special donation
(besides private donations given to other charities) for the Red Cross Relief
Fund and at last count we had raised over $1,300.00.
On a better note, fans enjoyed fun times at the JAGFan Fest, received wonderful
news about the arrival of two brand new "Webbies," and we had the opportunity
to enjoy watching Steven on a cable movie and on a brand new episode of JAG!
As we mourn the loss of thousands of lives, we continue to live life one day at
a time. We will never forget Sept 11th, but we will go on even with little
things such as our site, list, and newsletter.
And, we continually ask for your support of the American Red Cross.
The Totally Steven Staff
Congratulations to Steven and his wife Barbara!
We extend our warmest wishes to the Culp family
on the birth of their twins last month.
As many of you know, last month we put together
messages from fans to send to Mr. Culp and his
wife, congratulating them on the arrival of their
baby boy and baby girl. Mr. Culp recently wrote
to us to thank the fans.
"Thanks for all the good wishes on the birth of our babies. Thanks to everyone
for your cards, poems and letters. Barbara and I really appreciate it, as do
our little darlings."
Our best wishes to the twins. We wish them ever lasting happiness, love
and health.
Congratulations Steven!
A Webbie Christmas!
It will be a nice Christmas for Webbies! Clayton Webb will appear in JAG's
Christmas episode! Be sure to watch!
"Mixed Messages"
By Cheryl Russell
Mixed Messages is about the investigation into
espionage/murder case that revolves around who
sold what to the Chinese regarding a top secret
submarine.
The first Webbies see of Webb is in Harm’s office
when he stops by to "help out a friend in the
building". Harm has a shocked look on his face when
he comments "I didn’t know you had a friend in the
building."
Harm is in for more of a surprise when Webb hands him a file and then leaves with
a "nice seeing you Harm." Harm looks quite shocked. Is it any wonder? Who is this
man who sounds like Webb and looks like Webb, but is acting so very un-Webb in that
he is helpful? Without any pressure, members of Congress involved. Last time we saw
a Webb/Harm/ file trio was after Bobbie Latham paid Webb a visit that wasn’t very
social. Since when is Webb helpful just to be helpful? So very unWebb like. But
then again, is Webb really helping Harm or is there another reason he appears to be
helping?
The next time Webb and Harm are together is in a parking
lot. Harm needs more information. Obviously from the
exchange, helpful Webb is not present and probably isn’t
going to be showing up again anytime soon, if ever. There
will be no more information regarding the investigation
and no help tracking down the shooter. Webb also points
out that if Harm keeps pushing this, he will do nothing
but embarrass Commander Stoechler’s widow. The guilt
angle probably would’ve worked, if Webb had remembered
his math. In a comment he remarks about the killer
being sent to kill two people, but there were three in
the room. Why wouldn’t the third one be a target as
well? Harm catches the slip and won’t let it drop.
Webbies see Webb next in the courtroom just as the
hearing for Lt. Commander Pegano is getting underway.
Why is Webb so interested in a Naval hearing? Either
the world of espionage has taken the day off, or Webb
has a vested interest in what is going on. He doesn’t
say a word in the courtroom, but then he doesn’t have
to. His body language is screaming volumes. There is
much more to this than appears, but what that may be is
still a mystery.
Webb doesn’t say a word in the hospital room either, when
he is surprised by Harm and Roberts walking into Pegano’s
room unannounced. Webb’s presence in the hospital room
fills in the blanks for Harm. He has taken this case on
to clear his friend and now he knows he can do it.
Harm subpoenas Webb.
Webb isn’t at all happy the Harm has subpoenaed him to
testify at the hearing. He tells Harm he isn’t going to
testify. Unfortunately, the admiral hearing the case has
overheard Webb. Rear Admiral Morris lets Webb know that
yes, he is going to testify if rules have to be bent to
get it done.
Webb is now on the witness stand. We discover that he knew of a mole. Webb was using
a mole to feed the Chinese false information. He answers Harm’s questions, even though
he is reluctant to do so and admits that this was one of his operations and reminds
Harm of the importance of National Security. Webb is not ashamed or guilty. He makes
it clear that he was doing his job and doing it well. The death of the officers an
accidental, terrible result. But Harm is still upset. He even questions Webb's honesty,
and Webb's reminds him "I'm under oath, Commander."
Webb then clears Commander Stoechler of any wrongdoing. He goes farther by stating
that the Commander was an exemplary officer in every respect. The last Webbies see of
Webb (sob!) is of him warning Harm that he won’t get Pagano. The arrival of Admiral
Chegwidden confirms that fact. The hearing is considered classified and will remain
so for a very long time. Webb, has carried out another one of his missions.
What the Fans said:
"That scene in Harm's office was such
classic Harm/Webb antagonism."
"If this episode had ended with Harm's line
"I didn't know you had any friends in the
building" I would have been happy. It would
have been worth it just for that. Anything
after that was just icing on the cake
(fortunately there turned out to be a lot
of icing!)"
"His courtroom appearance was drool-worthy.
God, did anyone else see how blue his eyes
looked in that suit? And have I ever
mentioned I have an absoulute addiction
to those suits. Yum. Yum. Yum."
"Did he look "GOOD" tonight or what! All I can say is WOW!!!!!!"
"Steven looked so very handsome aaaahhhhh :):):) Loved to hear his title again.
Director Webb, right???"
"I loved Webb's tiny little smile in that scene."
"I loved all the little reactions by Webb while others were testifying. The
breathing, the moving in the chair, the eyes.. oh those eyes, he can say so
much with just those looks."
"Thanks for the post, because having Webb back is one of my favorite aspects
of the episode. It was so relaxing having him back- Thanks to TPTB."
"Can I mention how fine I thought our fave spyboy looked? I love his suits
and I actually thought his hair looked great last night. Above all I loved
his performance. DJE and SC did such a great job of playing off each other.
I loved the scene when Clay was on the stand. He was walking the tightrope
between being a good CIA agent and being a good person. SC did a fabulous
job of showing that. The scene where Harm found Webb with the mole was
perfect. You could tell that despite the good-natured insults they throw
at each other H. and C.W. really do like and respect each other. I loved
what Clay said about friends and trust"
"I loved Mixed Messages and I'm happy that Webb was in it. Steven Culp is
nice looking they should put him in different colors."
More of Steven on television!
Steven will appear in episodes of "Boston Public" and "Philly" (Nov27th-on ABC).
When we find out what the airdates are, we will let you know.
"How to Make a Monster"
by Carol Preflatish
First, let me say that I really don't like
scary movies. For Steven, I watched my first
and only "Friday, the 13th" movie and for
Steven, I couldn't wait to see "How to Make
a Monster." Pleasantly, I was surprised that
it was not as scary as I thought it might be.
Instead, it was just a little bloody.
This movie was a remake of the original "How to
Make a Monster" that was released in 1958. The
remake differs from the original in that it was
altered to match current times. It is about a
video game company & the release of a new scary
video game. Steven is the supervisor of a crew
of three computer geeks and one college intern
whose job it is to create a new video game that
will scare the socks off of kids.
Each member of the tech team is shown being interviewed for the job in
short clips jumping from one to the other. This is our first glimpse of
Steven. I thought the lighting could have been better on him in these
scenes, but he still looked great. We learn a little about each geek
during their interview shots. They are all misfits of some sort. Once
they are at their office ready to start, the owner of the company walks
in to meet with them. She gives them a deadline of four weeks to get the
video done and to perfection and offers them a $1 million bonus if they
do it.
The team works, develops and constantly argues with each other. Steven
does his best to keep them in check and almost has to use violence to
keep them from killing one another. At this point, I think it's prudent
to mention Steven's wardrobe. During most of the movie, he was wearing
a maroon colored button-down-the-front shirt. He looked great in that
color. I think that maroon shirt is the one thing that fans commented
the most on.
During the developing of the video game, there
is a power surge, the game is lost. Luckily,
they did make a back-up disk, but they say it
will take all night to reload it. None of the
crew wants to stay all night to load it.
Steven's character volunteers, but he is not
as computer literate as the rest and everyone
is afraid he will screw things up even more.
They finally decide who will stay and the
other's leave. It is a stormy night and very
spooky in the computer lab.
The next morning, the team member that stayed
the night is found dead in the lab by the two
other members. They suspect another company of
killing him and stealing the back-up disk, which
is gone. Greed now sets in even more. The two
team members hide the body in order to finish the
work themselves to get the $1 million bonus.
However, it wasn't another company. The power surge
from the night before caused the telemetry unit to
come to life and actually become the monster from
the video game.
This movie was shown on the premium movie channel
Cinemax. Because some fans may not have yet seen the
show, I will not reveal anymore of what happens until
the last paragraph of this article and that will be
placed on another page of the newsletter so not to
tempt you.
I would recommend watching this movie more than once.
When I watched it for a second time just a day ago
I found little things that I missed the first time
that were hints of what was going to happen. You can
also find some Webb related things in this movie, also.
For instance, the software company's name is Clayton Software and
the most obvious link to JAG's Webb is discovered toward the end
of the movie. Unfortunately, I cannot review that because that would
give away part of the ending. However, check my last paragraph if you
just really have to know.
Overall, this was a really good movie. It was great to see Steven in
a new role and he did it splendidly. No three-piece suits here and on
several occasions, we get to see that great smile that Steven has.
We even get to see him flirt a little. The only thing I did not care
for in the movie was the nudity. It was a short scene, but it added
nothing to the movie at all and I was glad to see that Steven was not
involved in any of those scenes.
"How to Make a Monster" is suppose to be replayed later on the HBO
channels, but I could not find it listed in my directory for November.
So, watch for it in your local listings.

Fans Reactions
"Steven looked great. Very handsome. Loved his wardrobe and hair."
"Hey, Steven can use chopsticks very well."
"Steven looked great! It was such a treat to see him smile so much! The
clothes were a good color for him and were a nice change even though I
am particularly partial to his three-piece suits! And just a hint of a
5 o'clock shadow!"
"Oh that man looks soooooo good! I would have liked a few more shots of
him walking away, nice, very nice. Don't see much of that on JAG. In the
air shaft I definitely would have let him lead the way so I could follow
'behind'."
"I loved the clothes he wore!!! He looked incredible!!"
"Steven was incredible! So different from Webb! He was kind of 'fun' in this character."
"Wow, Steven looked wonderful! We got to see him smile and even flirt a
little. I loved it. Well almost all of it, the ending, oh boy."
"SC should wear burgundy clothes more often, that color was great on him!"
"I loved his acting. The way the character changed. He has such an incredible range."
Happy Birthday Steven!
Steven's birthday is on December 3rd,
so we want to take this opportunity
to wish him a wonderful birthday!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday dear Steven...
Happy Birthday to you!
And many more!!!!!
Best wishes on your birthday from all the fans at the Steven Culp Fan
Connection, the SC/Webb mailing list and everyone at "Totally Steven!"
Since Steven does not like his fans showering him with gifts, we decided
to send him one in all our names. We can't say what it is here, in case
he reads this before we send the gift out.
We will have more imformation available later for members.

Christmas is just around the corner.
Since the Webbie movement started, it was our custom to send Mr. Culp a Christmas
gift. That changed last year with a special project everyone enjoyed. Mr. Culp
also liked the idea and said "it is the best gift you could ever give me."
Therefore, we are doing it again this year. Instead of sending gifts to Mr. Culp,
we will be conducting a drive to send homeless children Christmas gifts. Remember,
one gift goes a long way to a child. Last year the fans were wonderful by opening
their hearts and demonstrating what the spirit of Christmas is all about.
For our new members, what we did last year was contact an organization for Foster
Children, who provides children with a gift from the child's personal wish list. We
will post the tags and/or a list of what each children would like to receive. You
pick the child and the gift and we deliver the gift to the organization by Christmas.
We hope everyone takes part in this special project. We will pick up the children's
'wish tags' from the Sugar Plum Foster Children Organization shortly around Thanksgiving.
At that time, we will collect and post all the information about it on the site and lists.
So watch out for the announcements. Together we can make Christmas something special
for many Foster children. Everybody wins. A child's Christmas is better, you get to
do something that truly represents the spirit of Christmas, and we do it in honor of
a great, talented and wondeful actor, Mr. Culp.
Steven on Stage
"Save me Place at Forest Lawn"
by Sandra Martinez
On September 10th, I had the opportunity to see our talented Steven Culp in a staged
reading of "Save me a place at Forest Lawn." The reading took place at the Coronet
Theatre in Los Angeles. Steven shared the stage with Marion Ross, Betty White and
Marcia Cross, among others. Not familiar with this play, I was not quite sure what
to expect.
First I should point out that this was a reading which meant that the actors are not
actually acting out the scenes, but sitting down and reading from a script.
Steven was seated in the center of the stage next to Marion Ross (you will remember
her as Marion Cunningham in 'Happy Days') Steven portrayed Luke Olsen, a workaholic
son, who lives in the city and has not visited his mother Clara Olsen, portrayed by
Ross, in quite a while. Next to Ross was Betty White ("Mary Tyler Moore Show" & "The
Golden Girls") Ms. White portrayed Gertrude Wynatt, Clara's best friend. Next to SC
was Marcia Cross who read the part of Jo, Ms. White's daughter in the play and Luke's
former sweetheart from long ago.
The reading begins when Luke receives a letter from the Forest Lawn Cemetery. He
immediately calls his mother, but is unable to locate her. He assumes the worse and
takes off in search of his mother.
Luke finds his mother alive and well, or so the audience is led to believe at first.
The play develops with lots of laughs and heart-warming lines. The audience learns
more about the friendships and relationships of the various characters, which includes
a funny, crazy, drug-taking driver who drives the two old friends around town.
As the play progresses, the audience finds out that Clara is indeed dying. This prompts
moving reactions from everyone and uncovers a well hidden secret, which affects the main
characters. (Clara confesses to knowing all along that her husband and her best friend,
Gertrude, were in love with each other for several years and yet remained married
to others)
The story is a well-balanced comedy and tearjerker at the same time. We see the various
characters grow and change as they face the reality of death.
