"But it takes more than the right cinematic look and facial characteristics to hold your own with the best and the brightest in the industry as Culp does. The actor has the intellectual depth to grasp the complexities of portraying difficult characters placed in extraordinary circumstances." Keith Jeffreys, Venice magazine
The last few months have been exciting and
filled with terrific moments for Steven
Culp fans. Since our last newsletter we
have had some grand times and lots of fun.
Starting out with Steven's birthday gift,
our Christmas project, his messages to the
fans, some great Webb moments on JAG and
our various contests all leading up to the
long awaited release of "Thirteen Days",
we have been having a great time!
In this issue of our newsletter you find
out the latest on "Thirteen Days", the
winners of our past contests, reviews of
the last 2 Webb episodes, what the fans
have been saying about Steven/Webb,
some Webbie fun and most important of
all 2 messages from Steven to his fans.
On Dec 3rd we celebrated Steven Culp's birthday.
As stated in our last newsletter, fans
from different states and countries sent
in souvenirs representing where they are
from. We put together a great collection
of souvenirs, from T-shirts and caps to
some very unique gifts.
We wanted to share with all of you what
some of these gifts were. Some came as
close as California, others as far as
Australia, Singapore and Kiev. One of our
favorite gifts? It had to be the Olympic
Coin that was sent from Australia. It was
beautiful and very fitting. Why? It was
a coin from the Olympic event "Modern
Pentathlon", which Webbies know was
Clayton Webb's event in the 1988 Olympics.
Another favorite was a piece of the Berlin
Wall from Germany. Funniest was maybe the
Mickey Mouse stuffed animal with a "Webb
for President" button.
We are glad to report that Steven sent a
thank note to the fans:
(If you missed it check our special "13 Days" Newsletter). Then,
on the weekend of Friday the 12th, fans ran out to see our wonderful
Steven on the big screen. No one was disappointed, on the contrary
many reported seeing the movie more than one once.
"I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!! Saw it
with my husband on Saturday and will
be seeing it again this week with my
daughter."
"He did a sensational job! I can't say enough about his
acting, having never seen him in anything else I was
blown away!!! Excellent, excellent!!!!"
"Steven was simply fabulous. Watching 13 Days I had to
keep reminding myself that this was Steven....he looked
SO much like Bobby it was eriee!"
"It was so good to see SC smile so much, and laugh.
I felt pride when his name was up on the screen.
When I was in line for the movie, I wanted to tell
everyone about him, but I controlled myself."
Wonderful comments did not come from only "Webbies",
but from JAG fans all across the country. Read what
fans had to say about Steven's work and the movie in
general.
This has been a good year for Webbies. We got 3
episodes of JAG that featured our man Webb. Two
of those episodes were two-part episodes, which
made it a total of 5 Tuesday nights that Webbies
were at the edge of their seats enjoying our all
time favorite JAG character. With one more episode
coming before the end of the season, we got more
Webb this season than any other previous season of
JAG. Of course it is never enough as far as we are
concerned, especially after the tough time we had
during season 5.
Webbies especially enjoyed the episode "Separate
Peace" which revealed more about JAG's most intriguing
character and even gave us a peek into his office.
Thank you to Mr. DB and everyone at JAG!
The first glimpse of Clayton Webb, Deputy Director
of Operations-Counter Intelligence Center, is of
him doing what you would expect of such a lofty
position-not. He's knocking on the glass of his
fish tank. Obviously it is a slow, boring day in
the world of counter- espionage. But not for long.
Commander Rabb appears unexpectedly, at the office
door requesting information about an operation that
he's not supposed to know about.
Webb shows a range of emotion in a very short period of time. Anger at Rabb for accusing his father,
Neville, of covering up war crimes. Surprise, maybe shock, at how much Rabb knows about the
massacre. Maybe Rabb knows more about the massacre than Webb remembers at this point. He
recovers well; the old sarcastic Webb returns.
Referring to his office as "the drive up window at Dairy Queen" was classic Webb. He also regains
the upper hand against the Commander. Webb may have been caught off guard when Rabb first appeared,
but no more. He puts Rabb off by governement procedure and forms. If Rabb wants information,
he's going to have to jump through the hoops. Conversation is over when Webb refers to Harm as
Commander. However, no sooner is Harm out the door, when Webb is on his computer, accessing
the file. The look on his face when he is done reading the report is what? Sadness? Is he
sickened by what he read and what took place? Maybe, for a short time, he is not proud to be
where he is, doing what he does. We all know Webb has a heart underneath all that sarcasm,
and he's not a killer.
In Family Secrets, a new different Clayton Webb
appears. No, the sarcasm isn't gone, it's still
there, but not quite as blatant. It is in the
look he gives Renee when she asks him "if Harm
saves the Pentagon one billion dollars, can we
split it three ways?". Upon being offered supper
by Harm, he comments about how he thought "pilots
just ate raw meat" & "I'm not that brave" when he
finds out what is on the menu.
Trenchcoat is still there. Hair is the same. Still
in that suit & tie. I t finally hit me, what was so
different this time. Clayton Webb, in this episode,
is just a friend. He has no ulterior motives this
time around; everything he says and does he is doing
because he is a friend helping out a friend.
The first time he comes to Harm's apartment is to tell
him that the CIA has found out Sergi has been shot down
and is MIA in Chechneyan territory. Not only that, the
CIA is putting forth an effort to find out what has
happened to him.
The next time we see Webb, he and Rabb are returning
from listening to radio tapes at the NSA from the
Russians. Webb has taken Harm to listen to the tapes
for himself; something he doesn't have to do. He could
have told Harm what was in the tapes and let it go at
that. While there, Harm tells what a struggle he is
having staying behind in Washintong DC while his brother
is missing in Chechneya. Webb tells Harm that everybody
possible in Chechneya is looking for Sergi; the CIA and
its contacts are putting forth every effort. For Harm,
it's not enough.
Webb is starting to get a little irritated at Harm. That's clear with his pointed: "So what are
you going to do? Disobey a direct order from your commanding officer?" He shoots Harm a look,
and looks like he is about to pointedly question Harm about resigning his commission, when his
cell phone rings interrupting any sort of unsolicited advice he may have been about to give. The
Washington Post is going to run a story the next day on the son of Lt Harmond Rabb Senior who is
a soldier in the Russian army. Webb relays the information to Harm, who is horrified because
he never told his mom about Sergi.
The last time we see Webb is when he enters Harm's office with the Admiral. Harm is packing up
and ready to leave because he is off to Chechneya to find his brother. Webb is able to tell him
that Major Sokol called and Russian listening posts have picked up information that Sergi is
a POW. A prisoner swap is being discussed and Webb tells Rabb that he will make sure Sergi is
part of any swap. The relief that washes over Rabb's face is evident, thanks to Webb's good news.
That is what struck me about this episode. Webb does what he does because he is a friend.
There is no mention of favors later, no "quid pro quo." No ulterior motives. No sarcastic
remarks except when approprite; that was when supper was offered at Harm's. Personally, I think
he showed remarkable Self-restraint when offered those menu choices. Ugh. He had much more
self-control than this Webbie would've been able to maintain.
The only other time a hint of the usual Webb exerting himself was back in Harm's apartment,
the second time, when Rabb stated he could resign his commission.
Everyone else got to see what we Webbies have known all along; Clayton Webb has a big heart
underneath that trenchcoat and try as he might, he can't always keep it hidden.
Wasn't it cool Harm was (purposely) calling him
"Director Webb"???? :) I guess we know why Clay has
such a beautiful office :)"
"Webb....Ah, Webb....So handsome. So delicious. Never
given enough air time :-( And as usual, he's the one
who really saves the day"
"Not only do we know what he does, but he has a heart.
Did you see the look he gave Harm as he left the
courtroom? It was rueful, but he was kind of smiling.
I think he thinks he's going soft. That's okay with me!"
"That look back from Webb and the nod from Harm said volumes about their friendship,
in my opinion. And while some people may see this as a sign of Webb being soft, I
think it's more a sign of Webb being Webb. Underneath that CIA trench coat beats the
heart of an honorable man, something he's been very good at hiding."
"I can only speak for myself, but I watch: a) to drool over Webb when he's on"
We had the opportunity to read two interesting articles/interviews with
Steven Culp in the magazines "Venice" and "Back Stage West".

However we must also point out, that it wasn't just the articles that
excited fans, but also "the" photo of our dear Steven that made fans
ecstatic. Some fans on the mailing list were almost speechless... who
can blame them? Not us! We agree, Steven looks wonderful!!!!!!
"ohmy ohmy ohmy!!"
"Make sure you have your drool towels or buckets. Oh WOW!"
"He looks VERY Hot and sexy!!!!!!"
"I did put that picture up as wall paper too. Too sexy, too sexy ;)"
"Oooh, wallpaper - what a great idea! I gotta say, very, VERY yummy picture!"
"OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it me or has it suddenly gotten very warm in here"
"I don't know when the picture was taken, but I sure stared at it for a while"
"WOW that is one fine pic of SC, gives me chill bumps Thanks"
"(whispering)...wow...."
We asked fans what was the favorite scene of the movie
"Thirteen Days". The responses we received ranged from
the scene between Bobby and Ken in the kitchen, the scene
of Bobby with the Russian Ambassador, the scene where
Bobby is monitoring the discussions at the UN to the scene
of Bobby discussing ideas with the ExComm.
But the favorite scene by a long shot was the scene of Bobby
and Ken O'Donnell in the car.
Favorite Bobby line? "What do you want, a goodbye-kiss?"

Everyone at "Totally Steven" wants to wish all Webbies
a wonderful Valentine's Day.
This is a very special day for many us, because it is a
day to celebrate the great friendships that have come
about, due to our "Webbiness" & the great talented man
who without knowing it introduced many of us to friends
that we will treasure forever.
Thank you Mr. Culp, for the friendships we have made!
We wish you and your wife a wonderful Valentine's Day!
Why a Teddy Bear you may ask... well the old time Webbies
will remember that we have always considered Clayton Webb a
"Teddy Bear" in disguise. Therefore when we found this
"cello" playing teddy bear, we instantly thought about our
adorable Webb!
