Spring 2002

Our 2 Year Anniversary!

We are celebrating our second anniversary of being on line! The Totally Steven site is happy to be celebrating our anniversary this month. Even though SC fans have been around for several years now, and we have been enjoying our webbiness on line through the mailing list since 1999, "The Totally Steven!" site has been in existence 2 years this month and we want to thank everyone who has had a hand in making this possible. We want to thank the Webbies, the SC fans and those special friends that have helped us with their unwavering support, creative talents and information month after month. We would not be here without you. Most of all we want to thank the incredible Mr. Culp for the gracious treatment towards his fans, his unmeasurable talent and wonderful personality, that makes it so easy for all of us to be his fans. We are truly proud to be able to pay tribute to such a talented and classy man. To celebrate our anniversary we have created various games for fans to play and win prizes! So make sure to look for them in this newsletter. This is our small way to say thanks to the fans and give everyone a chance to test their Webbiness and SC knowledge.

Note from Mr. Culp

Shortly after our last newsletter was posted, we received a note from Mr. Culp, thanking the fans for the Christmas gift we all sent him. This was posted on the list at the time it was received, but we felt it was important enough to post it on the newsletter as well. "My thanks to all the Webbies for yet another wonderful Christmas present. Donating money and gifts to needy families and foster children- This is the best kind of gift you could give. It makes me proud to have such generous fans. All the best to you. Steven Culp Thank you to Mr. Culp for his kind words. We are proud to be fans of such a talented, truly nice and classy man.

FOUR WEEKS OF WEBB!

Starting April 30th fans will get to see Clayton Webb on JAG for four episodes in a row! This is a first from Webbies and we are thrilled! Season 8 will be remembered by Webbies as the season with the most Webb episodes! Thank you to TPTB. The episodes are scheduled as follows: April 30th "Tribunal" May 7th "Defending His Honor" May 14th "In Country" May 21st "Enemy Below" (Season Finale)

Crossing Jordan

By Sandra Martinez Medical examiner Jordan Cavannaugh approaches the detective that is kneeling on the floor checking the body of a 'jumper'. He has dark brown hair, wears a black leather jacket. Could it be him? Nah. Detective Rick Frazier looks up and smiles. A lock of hair on his face, beard and a goatee??!! No way! Is that really him? To the fans' surprise and delight, it was indeed our very own Steven Culp! And what a commotion his new look caused among the fans. Fans almost forgot about what the story was about or what a great job Steven did as a Boston police detective. All the talk on line was about the way he looked. The photo even made it on a JAG bulletin board: "Is this Steven Culp?". The new, very sexy, look was well received by the fans. Many of them hope to see it again. The episode "Four Fathers" was well done. It was your typical unexpected suicide that turns into a who did it murder mystery. Steven as detective Frazier works with Jordan to solve and apprehend the suspect of the crime. Things get complicated when the suspect is the son of a 'mafia' man who has been harassing and threatening Jordan's father. (A retired cop) Steven is very good in this role. He has the perfect 'cop' attitude and the new look adds to a 'naughty boy' physical appearance that is very different from most of the roles we have seen Steven in, especially Clayton Webb. Detective Frazier and Jordan work together at the end in a little 'devious' plan that gets the innocent man accused of the murder out free and at the same time manage to get the 'mafia' guy off of Jordan's father's back. By the end of the episode we see Frazier and his cop friends going to the bar of Jordan's father to celebrate the opening on this new establishment. Steven was perfect in this role; you'd think that playing a sexy leather clad cop is something he does all the time. But then that is the reason why he is such a good actor; he makes every role look natural and easy. What I found interesting with this role is that even though he is very good in it, it was his "new look" that grabbed most of the attention, it almost overshadowed his work on the show. All the fans could talk about was the facial hair, the smiles, and that leather jacket! But no matter how you look at it, the fact remains that Steven is still getting all of our attention one way or another, and that is always a good thing. What the fans said "I agree......I loved the goatee....very sexy! He had a great part! I'd really loved to see him get his own series." "Oh different look of Steven :) He was so very sexy :) And leather???? WOW." "He was totally cool :) Loved this character." "WOW did SC look hot tonight or what? I usually do not like men with facial hair, did not like SC's look much in "Nurse Betty" because of the beard/gotee he had, but tonight?? WOW! He looked incredibly good in a "bad boy" sort of way." "I loved him wearing that leather jacket." "He was excellent. Those eyes, beard, smile, voice....you don't get any better than that. That is definitely my favorite non-JAG tv show that he's been in. Great job, Steven!" "WOW! what a feast for my eyes! I think the pause button is worn out on my remote." "Man O Man did he look good tonight!!" "I would like to point out, that last night right about the time Crossing Jordan aired with our sexy Steven on, we started having several earthquakes in So. Ca. The first one, right on time for his first scene was about a 4.2 It is still shaking from time to time, and I think it is all SC's fault for looking so good, California Webbies just lost it and the earth started to shake!"

"Star Trek"

"The Practice"

By Carol Preflatish Steven Culp fans were treated on February 24 to his guest appearance on the ABC series, The Practice. The episode, entitled “Man and Superman,” was about a schizophrenic mental patient, Bill, who thinks he is Superman. While unstitutionalized, Bill causes the death of another man by landing on him in an attempt to fly. The wife of the victim files a lawsuit against the hospital. Steven portrays the hospital’s attorney, Aldridge. Bill’s wife asks the firm’s Jimmy Berlute, an old friend of theirs, to represent her and Bill. They meet with the hospital administrator and the attorney about the incident. Aldridge tells them that the hospital wants to shift responsibility from themselves to Bill. He explains that on the day Bill fell, his wife had just told him she wanted a divorce. They claim he jumped trying to commit suicide. The law firm decides to counter-sue the hospital on Bill’s behalf. They present this to the judge, who accepts the claim. During a recess before the actual hearing begins, Aldridge comes up to Berlute and his co-counsel and tries to intimidate, possible even threaten them by saying, “You need to understand, Dr. Gorman is a compassionate man who gets paid to care about Bill. I’m not.” Great line delivery by Steven. Later during a conference in the judge’s chambers, Aldridge explains to Berlute and the others that if Bill testifies, he will treat him like any other witness. Berlute turns to the judge and asks if Aldridge is threatening him. The judge answers him by saying that Aldridge was warning him. Back in the courtroom during the questioning, Aldridge informs Bill on the witness stand that his wife wants to marry someone else. Bill becomes very confused. Next, they are the closing arguments. This is one review where I am not going to reveal the ending. The Practice is an excellent show and this episode was one of their best. The ending was both surprising and emotional. Fans loved seeing Steven play an attorney again, and again we were not disappointed with his performance. He made each scene believable and interesting. His delivery of lines was perfect and I loved the sly way he always got his points across. I know many fans would love to see Steven as an attorney in his own weekly series. What did the fans have to say? "Just wanted to say that SC did a great job, as always, on the Practice tonight. He looked great too! "Ohhh that was an interesting case. Steven looked nice. I really liked his Wardrobe! like it when he plays a lawyer." "Another job well done, but I am still thinking of him with that beard in Crossing Jordan, oh my." "Steven is good playing attorneys, very believable." "I did not really care for this episode, but watching Steven was worth it." "I love "The Practice", always wanted to see SC in it, so I am a happy camper!" "I was wondering if SC was going to be the one playing Superman. Imagine SC in tights? Too bad it was not meant to be, but he looked hot in his suit anyway."

Webbies Paradise

By Sandra Martinez Every Webbie would have been in heaven. Fun espionage gadgets and interesting historical information. I am talking about the "Spies" exhibition at the Ronald Reagan Library and Museum in Simi Valley, California. The exhibition covered the world of espionage from the first spy, Nathan Hale (1776) to the latest operative to die in the line of duty, Mike Spann (2002). The exhibition contained lots of historical information (The first female spy was Belle Boyd, a confederate spy), to interesting gadgets (Nazi Germany's Enigma Cipher machine), to interesting tales, (Years ago, the Soviets presented the American Ambassador to the USSR a wooden plaque carved with the Great Seal of the United States - It contained a bugging device inside!), to anecdotes (the President's drivers kept getting lost when going to the CIA headquarters, until in the 1950's the first identifying sign was finally placed in front of the building) The exhibition also had a section dedicated to the movies vs real life. There were posters, scripts, photos, props from famous spy shows, such as: "James Bond, 007", "The Avengers", "Mission Impossible", "Get Smart", "I Spy" and others. (Ok, so the exhibition was not complete! Where is the stuff about the best spy ever? Clayton Webbb!) continues
