Letter from Steven to his fans

Dear Friends, Finally I am getting a moment to sit down and write! Sorry, it's taken me so long. First of all, thank you, thank you for the wonderful Hitchcock book. A fascinating peek at a brilliant and interesting mind at work. (I sound like a book reviewer). I've had lots of fun dipping into it. Thank you, also, for your thoughtful and generous Christmas gift. I really appreciate the fact that using this gift as a way to give others who are less fortunate and in greater need has become a tradition. I'm very grateful to all of you for your kindness. I have been working around the clock the past few weeks on the sequence of episodes leading up to the JAG season finale. This one is so top secret that we have to sign a voucher when we receive the scripts, so I can give you no hints. All I can say is that it's one of the best Webb, and I hope you all enjoy it. I'm looking forward to seeing it myself. I will make an appearance in an episode of "Mister Sterling" (will air this Friday). This is a character that, if the show is picked up for next season, will probably make return appearances. Thanks again for everything! I am, as always, very appreciative of your support. Best Wishes, Steven

Mr. Sterling-Review

By Sandra M/Carol P. Mr. Sterling is an interesting show about a young freshman Senator from California portrayed by Josh Brolin. In the episode that aired in mid April, Brolin's character, Senator Sterling; tries to introduce his prison reform bill as an amendment to another bill. Both the Senate and the House had previously turned down his bill and so he tries to do a filibuster to try to succeed in getting his reform included. There is much more to this episode such as the various senators trying to go over the rules of a filibuster, the ways the Senator's staff tries to help him to talk continuously for several hours non-stop and the fact that the National debt could possibly default. Yes, it is more complicated than that, and you really have to watch the episode to clearly understand it all. Overall it is a good way to see how it all works, reminded me of being in government class all over again. :) SC fans got to see Steven portray a US Senator this time around. I may add a good-looking, interesting Senator who wants to run for president. SC has 2 scenes in the episode, and even though they are short, it is his character that really holds the key to solving the problem in this episode. In order to keep the filibuster going, Senator Sterling cannot leave the senate floor else he will yield thus losing the filibuster. Sterling's assistant goes and talks to SC's character, Senator Garland from Ohio. He tries to persuade him to go to the floor and ask Sterling a question in order to give him a break to rest his voice. He refuses, calling it political suicide. But, when the sssistant tells him that not only is C-SPAN covering this, but two networks have picked it up and it would be good media coverage for him since he is going to run for president. A few scenes later, Senator Garland is seen coming into the senate chambers and asks Sterling if he would yield the floor for a question. In this manner, SC's character helps continue the filibuster, which eventually Sterling succeeds in getting his reform included in the bill he wanted. What some fans said: "SC portraying a Senator who wants to run for President?? There is a campaign I could support!" "Loved him in this. All, what 3 minutes (stretching it I know) that he was in it . Of course, due to the type of character he played there could be an opportunity to come back next year (if it's picked up) in a recurring role. More SC, can I take it? Don't know, but what a way to go if I can't!" "Any day with SC in it is a good day!" "He's so cute in this. Love the captures of him in the office. Kinda makes me wish I could watch this show." *would say something else, but she's busy drooling* "I just wish he'd been in it more. Don't the people in charge realize we'd much rather see SC than Josh Brolin, even if he is the star of the show? "Oh he looked so good as a Senator. He played the part great. Loved the last scene. Small role, yet the one to turn everything around in the episode!" "I hope his charater comes back next season. I will watch the show only for him. He is a great looking Senator." "Oh if politicians looked that good in real life more of us would vote!"

"24"

By Carol Preflatish Steven had given the Webbies notice that he would be appearing in an episode of the FOX show 24, but we were pleasantly surprised to see that he actually appeared in three consecutive episodes. The whole season of this show is supposed to be happening in a 24 hours time period, with each episode being one hour in the twenty hour time period. 24 stars Kiefer Sutherland as CIA operative, Jack Bauer, who in these episodes have only a few hours to find a nuclear bomb in Los Angeles before it goes off. The head of NSA, Roger Stanton, is arrested for treason after being suspected for being involved with the bomb. The President of the United States needs the information that Stanton knows, but isn't telling. So, the president finds someone to do some dirty work for him. The person for the job is Secret Service Agent Ted Simmons, played by Steven Culp. The president travels to a remote spot to meet with Simmons to question him about his qualifications. They include five and a half years as a Green Beret, Special Ops, and Gulf War Covert Ops. The President asks if he ever worked under the Directorate of the CIA and after hesitating, he reluctantly says yes. Simmons is perfect for the job the president needs done, extract information about the bomb from Roger Stanton. During the rest of this episode and the next two episodes, we see Simmons questioning Stanton. When Stanton doesn't give the answer Simmons is looking for, he gives him a torturous electric shock. Steven gave a wonderful performance during the dialogue with the president and, of course, the Webbies loved seeing that favorite lock of hair falling across his forehead. From the responses on the Webb mailing list, I think 24 has gained some new viewers with many saying they will continue to watch the show. What some fans said: "Oh WOW it was TOO cool to see Webb's twin brother in 24 . Very well written show!! Oh did I mention Steven looked great??" "Thank goodness for SC at the end or I would have fallen asleep. He was the only good thing about the whole show. Didn't he look great? Oooooo, did you all see that gorgeous hair falling on his forehead and think of me? LOVED IT!!!" "The hair, the lock of hair!!!! Yes, yes, the moment I saw the lock of hair down on his forehead I knew I would be a happy camper. *BG* Had I not had a sleeping cat in my lap who spooks easily and my Dad sitting across the room, I would have exclaimed quite loudly "THE LOCK OF HAIR, THE LOCK OF HAIR." "Loved SC on 24 (stayed up until 1am watching the ep on tape!) - when his character mentioned that he had been a green beret, I was SO hoping we'd get to see him in uniform !!" "I have to agree that SC's character on 24 was almost like Webb's twin. :) Last night was the first time I watched 24. It's a good show. Too bad I never got into it. And from the overnight ratings, I see that 24 did better than they usually do. I guess that was all us Webbies tuning in. LOL" "And it is pretty cool that they had one of their highest ratings when SC was on! We should drop them a line about 'webbie power'." "Wow. It was like watching Webb with a mean streak." "Ouch, what a guy. Now if you are going to be tortured, can't think anyone one better than this sexy agent."

Emperor's Club

By Sandra Martinez "The Emperor's Club" is a movie based on Ethan Cain's book "The Palace Thief." The main character of the movie is professor Hundert, beautifully portrayed by Kevin Kline. Steven portrays one of Hundert's students, Martin Blythe. (as an adult) I personally loved the movie and can't wait to get the DVD that comes out next month. Critics however were divided and even though it was received well by some, others insisted in comparing it to movies such as "Dead Poets Society" and "Mr. Holland's Opus" and therefore felt it 'had been done before'. I have to disagree with the latter, as I can't seem to have enough of heartfelt movies that deal with the incredible influence a teacher can have on a student and vice versa. In this movie Hundert is a professor of the old classics, who is truly passionate about what he teaches. During the school year he meets a new student, Sedgewick Bell. Bell is the son on a very influential person and from day one starts to butt heads with his professor. What follows is a battle of wits as Hundert slowly influences Bell to become a better student. The student-teacher relationship comes to an interesting turn when Hundert alters the score on a test, that gives Bell the chance to participate in a competition, taking the spot from a well deserving student, Martin Blythe. But things go badly during the competition and Hundert soon regrets his decision as he observes Bell cheating. You may ask, but where is Steven's character in all this? Well, his character comes into play 25 years after the competition. Yes, Steven's part is small, but oh so important and pivotal for the movie. It is Steven's character who delivers the incredible lesson to be learned from this movie. I will not discuss the ending of the movie to give those that haven't seen it the chance to get the DVD/tape. But I will say, that it is Steven's Martin Blythe, who people remember at the end of the movie. Yes, girls, Steven looks fabulous in this movie. His scene at the class reunion towards the end of the movie is definitely a "drool bib alert" scene. Looking so good in a tuxedo has to be a crime! :) Overall I have to recommend this movie, not only as a SC fan, but also for the way the movie reaches into our hearts. There are a few lessons to be learned from this movie, but this time around the biggest of all doesn't come from the teacher. For an interview with Steven about this movie you can click here

"Star Trek: Nemesis" and "The Emperor's Club" DVDs

The DVD for "The Emperor's Club" is scheduled to be released on May 6th. The DVD for Nemesis is scheduled to be released on May 20th. We understand several of the deleted scenes will be included. We are hoping that these will include SC's scene. We are dying to see him in a starfleet uniform!

Our 3rd Anniversary!

This month we are celebrating the 3rd Anniversary of "Totally Steven!" and the "Totally Steven" newsletter. Our enjoyment of Mr. Culp's talent, goes back approximately 7 years, to the very beginning of his portrayal of "Clayton Webb" on JAG. With the years that have passed our appreciation for his work in movies, television and stage has continued to grow. More importantly, we have been able to see first hand what a giving, down to earth person he is with his fans. We started out as Webbies and ended up all around SC fans. During the last 3 years through "Totally Steven" we have been able to share our enjoyment for the work of the wonderful and talented Steven with fans from all over the world. We also hope that we have been able to show Mr. Culp some of the fun and dedication his fans feel for his work, especially that of his character of Webb. Hopefully through the TS site, journals and mailing list, we have been able to provide the SC fans with information, contests, captures and some "webbie" fun. As we look back to the last three years, we know this would not have been possible without the fans' support. We want to thank all the wonderful Webbies and SC fans who have supported and helped us with ideas, feedback, creativeness and so much more. To our wonderful AU family, thank you for your shoulders to lean on. To Tess and SI, saying thanks is not enough for all you do all year long! You are priceless! To the Webbies who prefer to stay "backstage," thank you for all you share and give us all year long. We greatly appreciate you! And of course a HUGE THANK YOU to Mr. Culp (and his family) for always being willing to share and give the fans your time. We have said it before, and we will say it again, you are truly a class act! Sincerely, Sandra & Carol
