A Dream Come True, Meeting Steven at the JAGFanFest 2004

by Martha Lee
I have enjoyed JAG over the years as a casual fan. I became a dedicated and enthralled fan of Steven’s from the moment I saw the season 8, season finale. His performance as Clayton Webb was outstanding and made me take notice. I spent the whole summer in search of Steven’s other television and movie work while I waited for the season premiere to see if Webb lives or not. I was hooked on Steven beyond belief. My mission was to get anything and everything I could about him and his career. Totally Steven helped me out ten fold. The website is totally awesome with Steven information. I then had to see all the episodes that lead up to Paraguay finale. It took me a whole year, but I got all of his appearances on JAG from the USA network. I signed up for my first JAG Fan Fest in late July with the hopes that he might be able to attend. Having it fall on my birthday was an added bonus. When I found out that he would be at the ABC Primetime Preview Weekend at Disney’s California Adventure Park, to promote his new ABC show "Desperate Housewives". I knew that I needed to tweak my travel plans and attend both affairs. Just the thought of a double dose of Steven was too much to pass up. I enjoyed that weekend at Disney and to be able to see Steven in person, even from afar I was in heaven. He looked so cool in his Hawaiian shirt, shorts and cool sunglasses. When told that Steven would be joining us the fest I was thrilled beyond words and was psyched at the prospect to meet and talk to him in person. I primed my camcorder and camera for the moment he walked in the room. I stood patiently while he greeted and chatted with all the fans and signed everything and I do mean everything put in front of him. Steven was a trouper the whole night with us ladies. When it was my turn he called me by name (from my name tag). We chatted and he thanked me for the nice letters that I have written to him. He remembered them, how sweet. He was kind enough to sign a T-shirt that I had purchased from the ABC function. He also gave me a signed picture. I then was able to have three pictures taken with him (with the help of a fan that was standing behind me). Sitting next to him with his arm on the chair that I was sitting was extra awesome. Not many stars would do that. After leaving the line, I then got the idea to start my camcorder and just tape all the fun of the fans meeting Steven. I was trying to stay out of the way of others trying to get a chance with Steven, but still be close enough to hear some of the conversations he was having. I ran out of film and battery juice, but did get over an hour of the interaction that he had with each and every fan that he came in contact with. Steven is truly a generous and kind man. He is such a gentleman, after a group photo with the organizers of the fest, one of the ladies was seated on the ground and he held out his hand and helped her up. I am sure that he had as much fun as fans did. I cannot thank Steven enough for taking time out of his hectic Friday filming schedule to come and visit with us die-hard fans until late into the evening. He took care of each and every fan, I so admire that dedication to his fans. It turned out to be a very long day for him and he was gracious and giving each and every minute. Being in the same room with him on my actual birthday was the best birthday present a girl could possibly get. After he finished up with the final fan I had him sign a book. He wrote Happy Birthday on it for me. He is AWESOME. I admire him more and more with each story that I hear about him from the attending fans. I will remember these weekends with Steven for the rest of my life. I now have a collection of goodies from the Totally Steven booth that I will treasure always. You can never have too much of Steven. Thank you Totally Steven for all that you do to keep us fans in the Steven loop. Sandy, Carol and Monika you are truly AWESOME in everything you do for us “Webbies”. Thank You, Martha Lee
