The little girl you see in the picture is my daughter, Alicia. I am very proud of her just as any mother is of her own little girl. Of all the moms God had to choose from, I am glad he chose me to be Alicia's mother.
It is a joy to see her  wake up every morning with a smile upon her face and go to sleep at night treasuring that same beautiful smile.
Alicia has cerebral palsy, a condition which affects the brain's ability to coordinate/control muscles. In other words she isn't able to use her muscles in the normal way. Along with her CP she was diagnosed with profound MR, severe scoliosis, a heart murmur ( VSD ), legally blind and now has a  GI tube which is how she is fed now.
So life for Alicia hasn't been the normal life that all mothers dream about for their daughter.
Regardless of the complications she has, Alicia enjoys life and has fought her way through every situation she had to deal with. Until she became homebound due to her health situations with the scoliosis and some weight issues, she attended school. Just the mention of school brightened her face with that beautiful smile she has. It made her day to get to ride up on the lift of the transport van which is how she went to school.
She was never able to use her hands to write nor see with her eyes to read but she is able to hear sounds so she is able to understand most things going on around her. She enjoys me reading to her and she loves  listening to music, especially with her walkman.
There are several things Alicia likes doing but I think one of her favorites is going shopping. What woman doesn't! ( LOL ). Besides the shopping, she likes to take  long rides in the car. She loves to go visit uncle Albert and all her aunts and cousins. She loved to go visit her grandma in Statesville and her grandma in Charlotte before they went home to be with Jesus recently.
No matter how complicated things become she handles it and she has given me strength she is probably not aware of. She is my little girl and she is very special to me.
Heaven's Very Special Child
A meeting was held quite far from earth:
"It's time again for another birth"
Said the Angels to the Lord above
"this  special child will need much love"
Her progress may seem very slow,
   Accomplishments she may not show
        And she'll require extra care
From folks she meets way down there
She may not run or laugh or play,
Her thoughts may seem quite far away
In many ways she isn't adapt
And she'll be known as handicapped
So let's be careful where she's sent
We want her life to be content
Please, Lord, find the parents who
Will do a special job for you
They will not realize right away
The leading role they're asked to play
But with this child sent from above
Comes a stronger faith and richer love
And soon they'll know the privilege given
In caring for the gift from heaven,
Their precious charge, so meek and mild
         Is Heaven's Very Special Child

Thanks to my wonderful sisters, Debi and Cheryl for letting me worry them for all their advice and opinions..... Love Ya!
My generous niece did the special text on Alicia's picture. Thank you! Susan.
Alicia adores Tweety and goes to sleep every night with that smile upon her face covered with her tweety bird blanket. She has a huge tweety bird pillow that one of her favorite friends bought for her.
