| He studied to be a hairdresser (no kidding!) and the only instrument he played was guitar, but when the Newsboys offered him a spot as bassist he took it and he taught himself to play bass on his way to America. Phil used to be lead singer for the New Zeland based group Drinkwater. Besides being a newsboy Phil also has had/has a very successful career as a solo artist. He released his first album Watching Over You in 2000, and he released his second solo album Bring It On in October 2002. And it rocks! |

| Phil and Heather Joel married February 10, 1995 (?) Heather was a DJ at a christian radio station in Wichita, Kansas. Phil met her there during an interview the Newsboys were doing. Phil asked her to come to dinner before the show and Heather sent her room mate instead! After a little more persistance they finally met up. And one and a half years later they were married. Heather was a host on CMT's Hit Trip for several years. She is now the host of Musicforce.com's "Street Week". |
