Trance occures when a character has sustained a certain amount of damage from an enemy. It raises the characters statistics and they each have their own special ability that they can use while in trance. The trance meter will not fill up if some one from your own party attacks you, it must be an enemy.
When Zidane is in trance his Skill command becomes the Dyne command. This will let him use more powerful abilities.

When Garnet is in trance her Summon command becomes the Eidolon command. She will still use her original Eidolons but they will keep on attacking after she has summoned them.
When Vivi is in trance his Black Magic command becomes the Double Black command. He will be able to cast two different or the same spells in one turn.
When Steiner is in trance his physical attack power increases so he will do a lot more damage when attacking physically.
When Quina is in trance its Eat command becomes the Cook command. It works just like Eat but has a higher chance of succeeding.
When Freya is in trance her Jump command becomes more powerful. Once she is in the air she stays there launching spears down onto the enemy.
When Eiko is in trance her White Magic command becomes the Double White command. She will be able to cast two different or the same spells in one turn.
When Amarant is in trance he will have the Elan command. He will still have his original abilities but they will be more effective.
