On Tuesday, May 7th, 2002, The Food & Hospitality Institute at El Centro College suffered a great loss...the loss of beloved instructor Helen Duran.
Even in this time of sorrow, we still felt the need to express our gratitude and appreciation for so many dedicated years towards the education of El Centro Food & Hospitality students.

And, since Helen's such a big Star Wars fan, we had a few ideas as to what we'd like to do with

, so she could stay at El Centro. (If we had a Death Star, that is)

Here are the photos of our tribute to Helen Duran.
A queen with her royal robe, crown, and septer.
Helen's Royal Throne
A Queen upon her throne
A quite happy (and intoxicated) queen upon her throne
With a look like this, she needs one of 3 things:
1. Another drink 2. An oxygen tank 3. A bottle of Ex-Lax (After all, this is a private moment on a throne!)
Gifts from her loyal admirers
And, now....the best gift of all....Basic Food Prep. Mid-Terms!
For those of you who are not aware of the humor behind this, let's give you a little history about Helen and the Basic Mid-Terms:
On February 22, 2001, Helen and a nameless Full-Time Kitchen Instructor with the initials C.R.L. were in the kitchen office, trying to get copies of the Basice Food Prep. Mid-Term Exam. But, somehow, the truth as to why the two of them are chefs and not mathematicians came to light. As you can see below, we received 560 copies, instead of 80
Case in point
So, this is why Helen received these tests as a parting gift, also because WE DO NOT WANT THEM ANYMORE!
At least with Helen not teaching anymore, they will not have to unnecessarily cut down any more trees in Oregon

The Students, Faculty, and Staff would like to thank Chef Helen Duran for her time at El Centro College with her knowledge and skill as a Chef-Instructor, and, especially, as a friend to those who know her the best.
Thank you again, and may we wish you the best of luck at
