CD part 2
Three hours later, the whole group were sitting round the table eating their
'Christmas Lunch' or what passed for lunch on Moya. Everybody had got on
well and was mingling. Chiana was loving all the attention while Rygel had
found new people to steal from.
The present giving had taken nearly an hour to complete especially since the
human presents had to be explained. Crichton's presents to the crew had
sparked the most talking and explaining.
He had carefully chosen each present to coincide with their personalities.
Zhaan had been given a selection of herb seeds so she could grow her own and
several crystals. D'Argo's present was a toy frog with a flicking tongue
and two ceremonially Samurai swords. Rygel was given a box of plastic
soldiers and a box of human sweets. Chiana received some costume jewery and
a red dress. Pilot and Moya weren't left out; their presents were a
combination of copper wiring, nuts and bolts and two gold chains. Finally,
John had brought Aeryn a short black dress and an Action Man set that
included a toy knife, gun and combat paint.
Everybody had liked their presents and DK had suggested that the women wear
they dresses to dinner; Laura and Alex included. The men and Rygel had
waited patiently for the women in the dining room after having a tour of the
ship. One by one they all appeared until only Aeryn was missing. Becoming
impatient D'Argo called her and had received a colourful reply.
"I'll go get her." John volunteered.
When he reached her room, John stood in the doorway staring at the
ex-peacekeeper. Aeryn was wearing the dress and it looked more stunning on
her than John had imagined. It clung to her in all the right places and
stopped half way up her thighs. Her hair was loose completing the stunning
picture and as normal Aeryn felt uncomfortable. John's smile grew when he
realised what the problem was.
"You look great," he whispered from behind brushing her hair away from one
side of her neck and gently kissing it.
"Even better than that dress on Earth?" Aeryn quietly asked.
"Even better than that. You're going to knock them all out."
"Why would I want to do that?"
John laughed, "Because you look so stunning. Look its just another earth
saying, don't worry."
It was then that Aeryn did something uncharacteristic, she hugged Crichton.
John was at first surprised but quickly put his arms round the Peacekeeper.
"I've missed your Earp sayings." She whispered in his ear.
"Earth." John replied slightly pulling back so he could look at her.
Staring into her eyes, John pushed her hair back from her face, "I've missed
you too Aeryn." He softly told her as their heads moved closer together.
"Crichton! Aeryn! Will you two hurry up. I'm starving!" Rygel's voice
blared from John's comm.
"On our way your lowliness." John replied before grabbing Aeryn's hand and
strolling back to the others. Nearing the room, Aeryn's pace slowled,
sensing her withdrawal Crichton held tighter and dragged her in.
"Seems our resident Peacekeeper is a little shy." John announced to the
room.
Everybody turned to stare at the couple and John could have sworn he heard
Aeryn use the word revenge behind him, but it was soon lost as everybody
gathered round to tell her how wonderful she looked.
Now, they were eating and Aeryn seemed a little more relaxed. She had
placed herself between D'Argo and John's father while John while had Alex
and Chiana either side of him.
At the moment Jack Crichton and Aeryn Sun were discussing what life had been
like onboard Moya and Crichton Senior's view of Earth. Aeryn looked
fascinated at what Jack was telling her about the Grand Canyon. John smiled
as he watched the pair of them getting along so well. He suddenly winced
when an elbow connected with his leg.
"You came for me, so pay attention." Chiana told him John smiled and hugged
the young Nerabi who laughed out loud.
"How could I forget that Chi." He told her.
"Officer Sun," Pilot announced. "Could you please come to the Den."
"On my way Pilot." Aeryn called before standing and quickly leaving.
John's eyes followed her, wondering what was going on. Zhaan provided some
answer. "There isn't anything wrong, John." She informed him.
"Aeryn probably set it up to get out of here." Chiana suggested.
"Why would she do that?" Rygel asked, "We aren't leaving her any food."
"You mean you aren't, Rygel." D'Argo corrected and to everyone's amusement
he did look guilty.
Soon after, the mystery was solved when Aeryn appeared in the doorway.
"If everyone could follow me," she instructed, "Pilot, Moya and Taylon would
like to give you something."
Everyone was intrigued by the announcement and quickly followed Aeryn to the
Terrace. They all stood in semidarkness looking out into empty space until
Taylon sailed past. The gunship then fired and ignited several discs
producing a beautiful lightshow. The room filled with lights and sounds of
exclamation.
Aeryn smiled at the enjoyment on everybody single person's face and then
quickly slipped out of the room.
John noticed her leave and followed. He caught her up with Aeryn in a
corridor the next level down and got her attention.
"Aeryn, wait up!"
She did, stopping and then turning to watch him approach. Crichton stopped
just in front of her, Aeryn's back against the wall.
"Thank you." He said studying her face.
"What for?"
"The light show; the idolts guide to prowlers and for actually wearing that
dress in public." He reeled off, Aeryn smiling at the last comment.
"You are welcome Crichton." She returned, her smile infectious. "And thank
you for my gifts."
"My pleasure but I have one more."
Aeryn looked confused as John produced a simple gold chain with a cross
dangling from it.
"I wanted to give you this without the others."
"It's beautiful." Aeryn gasped.
"It was my mother's," John commented as Aeryn's eyes shot up to met his.
What she saw in them was pride and love. Aeryn chided herself; she couldn't
do anything when she was staring into his expressive eyes.
John saw when Aeryn agreed to the gift and his heart lifted. He carefully
undid the chain and placed it around her neck, their faces only inches
apart. Suddenly the corridor moved and Crichton fell forward. When it
straightened John's body was pressed against Aeryn's. He could feel her
warmth all down his, looking at her he could see that it had affected her as
much as him. A knock on his foot made Crichton look down and see his
favourite DRD looking right back with greenery around its antenna.
"I think Moya is trying to tell us something." He commented.
"What makes you say that and what is that green stuff?"
"It's the green stuff that makes me think. Its called mistletoe. We Earth
people believe that if two people stand below it they have to kiss." He
told her, gaining eye contact with the last comment.
"Well, wouldn't want to disappoint Moya." She replied.
Crichton's eyes lit up and he leaned forward and captured Aeryn's lips. It
had been over a year since John had kissed Aeryn, but as soon as he started
time disappeared. She tasted just as sweet as the last time; John's hands
moved to her face and cupped it trying to bring her even closer to him. It
lasted a lifetime in Crichton's eyes but only two minutes in reality.
They pulled away as Chiana's voice could be heard coming up the corridor.
John's smile was unmistakable and Aeryn watched him as he bent down to
retrieve the mistletoe and thank Moya. He was doing this as Chiana spotted
them.
"Hey Chi," John called standing, "Want to try an Earth custom?" He asked
waving the greenery in front of her face.
"Always ready for anything Crichton." Chaina replied as John leaned over
and kissed her on the cheek with his arm above their heads.
"How about you Aeryn?" He joyously asked turning but she was gone.
John was momentary dumbfounded, but soon recovered.
"Want my advice?" Chiana asked.
"No," John forcefully told her and left in the opposite direction than
Aeryn.
Chiana smiled and headed after the former Peacekeeper. Finding her in her
room, Chiana decided to have some words.
"I thought we had sorted this out?" She called.
"We have." Aeryn quietly replied.
"So what was that?"
"A happy memory."
"What!?" Chiana demanded.
Aeryn turned at that and Chiana saw the unshed tears in her eyes. Both
women sat down, but Aeryn made sure there was a space between them.
"He's going back tomorrow Chiana and we'll be on our way so nothing can come
of it. It was a spur of the moment thing, you should know about that."
"I do, but you and Crichton are different. Both of you have been after each
other since I've known you and D'Argo said even before then. I saw how you
acted when Crichton had to marry that princess. You love him and you have
to admit it."
"Why!" Aeryn shouted back, "We come from different worlds."
"So do D'Argo and myself."
"Yes, but your planets are at least closer than ours. Crichton is going to
go back to Earth with his family and the rest of you are going to find your
homes."
"What about you?"
"What about me! I will survive like I always have."
"Without Crichton?"
"Without Crichton. He will go home, we'll go back to our side of the
universe and that's the end of it. No more discussion, no nothing. O.K."
"Yes Aeryn." Chiana said dejectedly leaving Aeryn alone to her tears.
Aeryn had another visitor later that night and it was definitely unexpected.
Jack Crichton stood at the entrance to her room.
"May I come in?" He politely asked.
Aeryn just nodded, confused why the older man was there, but he was making
her nervous. At least she had changed back into her PK gear it made her
feel slightly more comfortable.
"I want to talk to you about John." He told her.
"What about him?" Aeryn stiffly asked hoping this conversation was heading
towards dangerous ground.
"I want to know what's going on between you and my son."
"Nothing." Aeryn defensively replied.
"That's not what the others think."
"Well, the others are wrong." The PK answered angrily.
"Aeryn." Jack spoke calmly. "Please don't take this the wrong way, but I
only want to see what's best for my son."
"It's sorted, so there is nothing to worry yourself about."
"I believe there is. He loves you Aeryn Sun. I can see it every time he
talks about you. It was plain the day you arrived at our house."
"He will get over it." Aeryn sadly replied.
"John's been back on Earth nearly a year and he hasn't yet."
Aeryn sadly smiled at this, "John once said ' the only thing we couldn't
overcome together was each other.'"
"He was right. You need to tell him Aeryn. Tell him how you feel."
"No!"
"Why not?"
"For as long as I've know him, all John wanted was to go home. I didn't
stop him the last time and I won't this time."
"Even if you love him and you won't see him again?"
"Even then." Aeryn told the older Crichton, tears spilling down her face.
Jack recognised the lost look in Aeryn's eyes and moved to comfort her. He
wrapped her up in a hug and let her cry herself to sleep.
