Part 5 For the Greater Good

D’Argo found John fiddling with his module. "I have to go after them."

John stopped, still holding his ratchet and turned to him. His skin was fully wrinkled, the pain held in check with Zhaan herbs and curiously the leather hood style Scorpious wore. He adjusted his cool packs. Like Scorpious he was having trouble finding thermal constancy. "You are sure? They aren’t going to be any happier to see us than when they left."

"He’s my son. It’s my fault he’s grown up as he has. Not his. He’s all that I really want in life now. To be with him. If he’s so set on being a part of this Nebari rebellion, then I will too. Perhaps I can lead the warrior life I dreamed about as a youth, instead of this constant running. I’m tired of this. It’s no life for a warrior."

"You want to be a part of the rebellion?"

"It’s better than this, and it’s for the greater good." He smiled sourly.

"Greater good. Those are scary words." He grinned. His sadness slightly lifted. "I sure don’t care to think about the Nebari owning this end of the universe."

"We need to talk with Aeryn. See what she wants." D’Argo broached the touchy subject.

His grin faded. "If she’ll talk. She’s been avoiding me like the plague."

"She’s had long enough to come to terms with all that’s happened, John. As we all have."

He laid his ratchet down. "Let’s have at it."

They found her in the Cargo bay. She’d spent most of her time in the room. Working out her frustrations.

At the sight of John her face paled.

"What the frell has happened to you?"

"That’s the sixty four million dollar question of the century."

D’Argo spoke. "We decided we are going after them."

"Chiana and Jothee?"

D’Argo nodded.

"You decided. You’re going to bring them back? How are you going to do that? Handcuffed? Chained?" She looked from John to D’Argo.

John answered. "No we are going to join up with the resistance."

She looked him directly in the eye. The first time for solar days. "You. You are going to join the resistance? Why ever would you do that?"

"Lets just say I’ve got a bone to pick with the Nebari. I’m stuck out here, I sure as dren can’t go home looking/being like this, so I might as well have a say in who dominates the universe."

"You’d go to your death, fighting? For a cause that’s not of your world?"

"This is my world now. And I want a say in the outcome. Hopefully, it won’t mean my death." John answered her.

D’Argo spoke. "We all will die sometime."

She looked from one to the other. "What about Moya? Pilot?"

"We haven’t talked with them yet."

She studied John’s disfigured face. She found it easier to think of being with him again. He was different as she was. Yet again they had both gone through changes. She was her old tough, cold self again. There was safety in that. She was a peacekeeper after all. "I was born a warrior. I might as well die a warrior. Count me in."

A relieved smile curved John’s wrinkled lips and showed in his blue eyes. He was elated to see a small glimmer of it reflected in Aeryn’s face as her regained peacekeeper attitude cracked allowing her to respond if even only slightly to his pleasure.

They told their plans to Pilot.

Aeryn laid her hand on his arm. "This effects you directly, Pilot. That’s why we’re here. Moya is a peaceful vessel. We know that. So we don’t expect you or her to want to become embroiled in this."

Pilot conferred with Moya. "We are of a like mind. The Nebari can’t be permitted to overtake the Universe. We will help in anyway we can."

A large smile spread across Aeryn’s face as she laid her hand on Pilot’s arm. "I’m glad you will be with us."

"Setting coordinates for Nebari space."

**********
Scorpious walked across the room studying Chiana and Jothee. "This really is too easy. I expected more of a chase. But you two simply walk right into my lap." He complained to them.

Chiana struggled furiously against her bonds. "I can LEAD you to Neri. Are you listening? The underground? The resistance? You’ve HEARD of them haven’t you?" She said angrily.

"That..humm…Is not my current objective. But one I shall certainly utilize when the time comes. In the meantime, I need John Crichton."

He’ll die before you capture him!"

"Yes, that is what I keep hearing." He smiled his wintry smile.

"I’ll die before I led you to him." She stormed. "I WON’T be a party to his capture!"

Scorpious’s smile broadened. "You may not have to."

"Scorpious." The tall beauty walked into the room.

"Yes, Jenovia?"

"Contact was made with the Moya crew 3 solar days ago. They have taken the bait. We should expect their arrival tomorrow."

"Excellent. Let’s see to it that the proper welcome is ready."

"And it appeared that he has changed. You have been successful yet again."

"Excellent!" Scorpious was elated. His eyes sparkled with amusement.

"NO!" Chiana cried as Scorpious smiled one last time as he left them alone again.
