Author's Notes: Takes place after "A Son's Devotion"
Rygel was floating about Moya, minding his own business. The weeken has not been kind to Rygel. First off, the entire crew was attacked by this Sebacean warlord who wanted to destroy the PeaceKeepers and had nearly killed Aeryn. Second, one of the warlord's generals turns out to be D'Argo's hybrid son, who has defected to their side near the end, and now, the nineteen-year-old brat has joined them along with the leader of the local rebellion to free the rest of the 'New Sebacean Empire'. Rygel had already had a taste of Jothee's manners when he first met him. The boy had proved himself useful in battle, but his attitude has much room for improvement. Rygel finally found himself floating near the quarters of the Luxan-Sebacean brat and decided to look around.
"The boy's obviously made himself at home." Rygel thought as he looked around the quarters. The room was furnished with a small fur rug and weapons, plus certain tools for torture and research. He then heard a noise. Rygel turned to see Jothee, fast asleep and snoring. "He is his father's son." Rygel said to himself. He risked floating closer to the sleeping form. Jothee still had the special medallion, the one which turned into a battle armor when touched, around his neck. Rygel, being a very greedy Hynerian dominar, reached for the medallion, and suddenly found Jothee grabbing his hand very hard.
"Do you think you can get away from me that easily?" Jothee mumbled sleepily. "You, of all people, should know I never give up that easily."
"I didn't do anything, I swear!" Rygel cried softly.
"Oh, but you did, Elysia." Rygel paused at those words. Elysia was the rebel leader accompanying them. Jothee was obviously dreaming about her. "You've stolen my heart." Jothee continued. "First metamorphically, then literally. How is it, that after all I've done for you, you refuse to accept my affections towards you..." Rygel managed to control himself from laughing. That poor child was in love with a Sebacean!
"Oh, you're defenitely your father's son!" Rygel thought. Then, he became nervous as Jothee started to feel Rygel. "He thinks I'm Elysia." Rygel realized.
"One way or another, Elysia." Jothee continued to mumble as he brought Rygel closer. "I will have your heart as you had mine." Rygel could feel their lips push together as he tried to struggle against the strong grip. Then, Jothee opened his eyes.
Moments later, Rygel was floating very fast in the corridors, nearly running over John. "If you see Jothee," Rygel instructed the human. "I'm not here!" Then, he ducked into the nearest vent as Jothee came around the bend, very angry and very embarrased.
"WHERE THE FRELL IS THAT TOAD!?!?" Jothee yelled.
"Whoa, calm down." John said, noticing the signs of a Luxan hyper-rage. "What did Rygel do to you to get you so upset?"
"That aquatic worm snuck into my quarters without permission!"
"He does that to all of us," John replied. "Believe me."
"Well, I suppose he didn't try to steal anything from your quarters while you were sleeping!" Jothee responed.
"I would have been out of there without any trouble if you hadn't kissed me!" Rygel said from the vents. Jothee looked into the vent Rygel crawled into.
"I was asleep before you disturbed me!" Jothee cried into the vent.
"So sorry," Rygel said casually. "I didn't mean to interupt your dream date with Elysia."
"THAT DOES IT!" Jothee screamed. "I'M GOING TO GET YOU FOR THIS, YOU HYNERIAN DREN!" John tried to hold back the furious half-Luxan, but barely.
"What the hezmanza is going on here?" D'Argo asked when he heard the noise.
"Rygel and Jothee have a little disagreement, that's all." John answered, still trying to hold back the raged hybrid.
"WHEN I'M DONE WITH YOU," Jothee threatened. "YOU ARE GOING TO WISH YOU NEVER SURVIVED THE ZELLBINION!"
"Rygel!" D'Argo called in the vents. "Will you please get out of there so we can discuss this?"
"Discuss what?" Rygel asked. "Your son was trying to kill me!"
"YOU'LL BE BEGGING ME TO KILL YOU WHEN I'M THROUGH!" Jothee continued to threaten.
"Oh, I'm so scared!" Rygel taunted.
"Fine." Johthee released himself from John's grip and picked up a passing DRD, then stuffed it into the vents. "If you won't come out, I'll drive you out."
"Oh, and how do you plan to accomplish that?"
"Very easily." The DRD zoomed right past Rygel, forcing the Hynerian to float back into the corridors, where Jothee grabbed him and started choking the life out of him. John and D'Argo finally managed to break Rygel out of Jothee's hold and separate the two.
"Now, Jothee." John said in a reasoning tone. "We do not kill crew members, no matter how annoying they are."
"Oh, I wasn't going to kill him." Jothee replied. "Much."
"Jothee," D'Argo said. "As much as I'd love to see Rygel get what he deserves, we need him alive. Strangely, his Royal Pain has his uses."
Jothee looked like he was calming down a bit, but gave Rygel an angry look. "Fine," he said reluctantly. "He lives...but not well." Then, Jothee took off.
"I'll get him to sick bay." John said as he carried Rygel into the corridors.
In the cargo bay, Jothee was practicing some old fighting moves when John came in to check on him. "Hey." John said. Jothee paused in his routine to see the human.
"Hey." Jothee replied. Of all the creew of Moya, he was actually able to understand some of the human's strange behaviors.
"Rygel's doing all right," John said. "You did quite a number on him."
"He deserved it."
"So..."
"So...what?"
"So...do you want to talk about it?"
"There's nothing to talk about."
"Okay, let's play a little game. I say a word, and you say the first thing that comes to your mind."
"All right."
"Qualta."
"Blade."
"Sebacean."
"Peacekeeper."
"Elysia."
"Smart, brave, daring, witty, skilled, sexy and drop dead gorgeous." Jothee soon realized what he just said and blushed.
"Oh, man." John chuckled. "You got it bad."
"Frell." Jothee swore. "You just couldn't take Rygel's word on it for once?"
"It's better if I hear it from you." John replied. "So, spill. You have a crush on Elysia?"
"A crush?" Jothee asked. "Crichton, I'm obsessed with her! I have been madly in love with her for three cycles!"
"That long?" John asked.
"When I realized who she was, I promised her a swift death. She was against Kathra, and to her, disloyalty was the most unforgiveable sin you could perform."
"How does Elysia feel about this?"
"That's the problem. Even after a weeken of atoning, she still hates my guts."
"Do you know that for certain?"
"Positive, and who can blame her? I killed about ninety percent of her friends while being loyal to her mother."
"You're not like that anymore. Elysia probably sees that by now."
"I don't know..."
"Look, Jothee." John said. "Don't sell yourself short there. You're a great person, on the verge of getting a great future. Have you at least talked to her?"
"I tried asking her to dinner," Jothee explained. "But she turned me down."
"And you can't take no for an answer."
"Never have, never will."
