From the Past Part 1
by Aeryn Slayer
Summary: Someone has a secret from their past that only the chair can solve.
Spoilers: This is set towards the end of 'A Hidden Memory'. I changed the ending and added how I think it could have ended. Some spoilers for both seasons.
Disclaimer: Sadly, I could never be good enough to own any of Farscape, although Crichton would be nice!! They all belong to Rockne, Jim Henson Company, the writers, you all know that.
Note: Thanks to all those who made this story possible, Shales, Lt Viper. Thanks for everything.
Aeryn carefully stepped onto the ship. She was very conscious of everything that was around her. Her reflexes were ready for even the slightest change in the ships conditions. She knew that Crichton and D’Argo were just outside the door in a transport pod, if she needed any help. At this particular microt, she wasn’t sure if she would, but because of the circumstances, it felt safer having them as a barrier to fall back on if things got out of control. However, she wasn’t sure if having Crichton out there to back her up was as safe to count on as D’Argo.
“Did you say anything to her when we were leaving?” Crichton screamed at her as she sat across from him in the ‘dining’ area. The others were on command, trying to get Moya’s systems back on line. They probably would have been better off with them to help in any way that they could, but the tension needed to be cleared between them. At least Aeryn had decided. She had come in here to see if Crichton was all right after what had happened to Gilina.
“I didn’t say anything to her, Crichton.” She protested back. She couldn’t understand why he was being so aggressive towards her. What had she done?
“Well, what did she say to you?”
Aeryn opened her mouth to reply, but stopped when she thought about the impact of what Gilina had actually asked her would have on his already unstable attitude.
“What did she say?!” he asked again, his blue eyes glistening with anger.
After a microt, Aeryn, deciding that he couldn’t get any angrier with her, said to him, “She asked me if I wanted to be with you. And that you had asked her to go with us, but she didn’t want to go and find out that you loved me.” She stopped so that Crichton could take that in. Then she continued. “When she said that we should go, I tried to convince her that she would be safer coming with us, since she would most probably have been found out by the Peacekeepers and killed. She said she could manage, and when she started to take off, I told her that she had to come with us, no matter what. In the end, I dragged her with me. It wasn’t my fault she acted the way she did on the roof of the base.” She stopped and looked at Crichton. He seemed to have taken in what she had told him. How much he believed wasn’t clear.
While he was quiet, Aeryn asked what had been bothering her since Crichton had started yelling at her. “Why are you getting angry at me?” she demanded. “Is it some strange Human reaction to yell after a crisis and…”
Crichton cut in with just the glare he gave her. “I’m angry at you because she went with you to be safely taken to the transport, so it’s your fault she’s dead!”
Aeryn had been quite taken back by the accusation. She didn’t think she understood the grounds that he had based his attack on her from. “You’re blaming me for Gilina’s death? How can you? Whatever was going on between the two of you, and for whatever reason she froze up there and didn’t shoot straight away, has absolutely nothing to do with me! Don’t try and put me in the middle of your grieving. You don’t have the right to blame me for anything!” And with that, and before Crichton could start yelling, she stormed out of the room and headed towards the command area to see if she could be of any help.
Because of the tension in the room, Crichton didn’t even notice that Aeryn knew about Gilina freezing, since he assumed he was the only one who saw it.
********************Pilot had told her that it would be best if she went straight for the command of the baby, just to make sure it could control itself. Then she would be able see if the ship could communicate. She had to try and convince the baby that they were no threat to it, and that the PK Command Carrier that it could detect was not there to get it and give it orders. She had to do everything in her power to persuade it that they were not its enemies.
How she was going to do that hadn’t quite come to her yet.
“Why did I have to be sent on this job? Zhaan could have fixed this situation better then I could ever hope to. Oh, that’s right. It’s part Peacekeeper, so why not send the ex-Peacekeeper. I think you made a bad choice Pilot.” She whispered to herself, as she silently made her way to command.
“epin volk rublen.”
Aeryn started as the voice boomed all around her. She looked around in case there was someone on board. Then she realised that the voice came from the ship, and that she recognised the language.
As she got to the door of the bridge, she heard it again and this time was able to work it out.
“epin volk rublen!”
It was Skykaavian. The ancient language of the Sebaceans. Luckily for her, she had secretly learnt it. It was illegal for any Sebaceans to speak it, so it was forgotten. She translated it to say ‘Identify yourself.’
“My name is Lieutenant Aeryn Sun. I am a Peacekeeper.” She was unsure how confident she sounded.
As she moved further into the room, the whole command lit up. The sight was spectacular. The complete synthesis of Peacekeeper and Leviathan technology was amazing. Suddenly, the lights on the floor flashed in unison with the voice as it boomed again.
“peflam?” The voice asked, almost suspiciously.
“I am currently without regiment.” Aeryn replied carefully.
“denchon reconal dunck Peikepa.” He remarked, almost angrily.
It took Aeryn a moment to translate, since she hadn’t recalled the language for such a long time. He said, as near as she could tell ‘Then you are not a Peacekeeper.’
“Neither are you. You are not a Peacekeeper vessel. You are a Leviathan/PK hybrid, but you are not Peacekeeper by nature.” Aeryn tried to explain. “You were accidentally given some Peacekeeper DNA during your conception. That is why you have weapons and your mother, Moya, doesn’t. You were never going to be part of the PK force.”
“Peikepa Correan Carper per bulah doon rippriv . kucnko tyfol locoa commens.” He reported, as Aeryn worried about what he meant by ‘reporting to the Peacekeeper Command Carrier’ that he could detect nearby. All of a sudden, the lights started to flash violently. “kocnba dochara. kucnko doon Luxan molan Human sopopna. rielifle honpa. rielifle brokwan kocn?”
So, he knew about D’Argo and Crichton outside in the transport pod.
“No. No. We don’t want to control you. We were unsure about your alliances. Moya, your mother, wasn’t sure if she could help you, without trying to make you think that we were controlling you. We just want you to know that we are your allies. We don’t want to hurt you or control you. We just want you to know that we are your friends. Do you understand what I’m saying?”
“kocnba vialgo spant jakov. Peikepa erolve tyrack ifront. Moya escorpe efrade plaquis stort curtes. Loftantan Aeryn Sun topot Peikepa prisomen.” He stated. She suddenly felt the ship begin to move.
He had told her that he was going to return her to Peacekeeper imprisonment. They were obviously headed for Crais’ Carrier.
Aeryn tried to think of a way out but realised it would be a futile attempt.
“Aeryn. What’s happening?” Aeryn could hear Crichton’s voice from her comm. badge.
“Crichton, we’re going to Crais’ ship. I can’t stop it. Get back to Moya. Don’t come after us. The baby is not going to work with us. Just go back, now. Take Moya and get out of here.” Aeryn pleaded to them, just in case they decided to be heroes.
“Aeryn, we can’t let you be taken into Crais’ hands…” he started, but Aeryn interrupted him.
“I’ll be fine. He can give Crais your co-ordinates. Just get back to Moya and leave.”
“Stop saying that you’ll be fine. You don’t know that.”
Before she could argue back, the comm. system went dead.
“Crichton? Crichton? Are you there?” Aeryn called, starting to panic.
“kocnko ragin evaporte kocnno Sun. Crais’ Carper fora.
“Incoming vessel, please identify yourself.” A young officers voice came over the line.
“Beep. Beep. Beep-beep-beep.”
“Sir, the ship is using an old Peacekeeper code. I have put it through the translator and it says it has a prisoner for you, sir.”
“This is Captain Crais. Who is the prisoner you are carrying?” he asked, not sure if he was more intrigued by the vessel itself, or the possibility of who the prisoner could be, given the recent events.
“beep-beep beep-beep. Beep.”
“The ship says it has Officer Aeryn Sun.”
“Really. You have Officer Sun with you? And what sort of vessel are you?” he asked happily.
The ship continued to beep until the Communications Officer could translate what it said. “The ship says it is a Leviathan/PK hybrid, sir. Officer Sun was onboard it when it detected us. It came directly here when it picked up our signal. Where can it unload Officer Sun?”
Crais thought about that for a microt. He checked the scan of the vessel to see if there were any other life forms aboard, and once satisfied that the ship was being truthful, replied with glee, “You may dock in Loading Bay 3. I will meet you and your ‘prisoner’ there.”
Aeryn’s heart pounded against her chest so hard that she thought it could break through. She didn’t know what she was going to do. If Crais got his hands on her, after what she had done on the Gammak Base… she didn’t even want to imagine what he had in store for her. She only prayed that somehow, the baby ship wouldn’t give away Moya’s position. Her first loyalty was to protect her shipmates. Even Crichton. She was jolted about a little as the two ships connected.
Suddenly, the door opened and five Peacekeepers barrelled in, fully armed.
‘If they’re going to take me in, the least I can do is make it challenging for them’ Aeryn thought almost happily.
She fired a couple of warning shots to let them know that she wasn’t going to be coming in without a fight. They returned fire just a she knew they would.
All of a sudden, she was being shot at from behind. Small lasers had lowered from the ceiling. They were firing at her. As she felt herself be hit at least half a dozen times, she realised they were tranquillisers, not bullets. The ship must have realised what important cargo she was to Crais if he was coming to collect her himself. Before she could fight it, Aeryn’s legs weakened under the weight of her body and she collapsed to the floor. The last thing she could make out was the evil smile on Crais’ face as everything faded into black. To be continued....
