Summary: a bet drives John and Aeryn to disscover some interesting feelings!!!

~18~

“What do you want,” she spat, bitterly.
“To talk, Aeryn,” he whispered.
“You always want to talk, but sometimes I don’t, sometimes…” her voice trailed off.
“Look, Aeryn, what I said I didn’t mean, it’s just that,” he couldn’t say it it’d make it look like their relationship meant less to him than the stupid bet and it didn’t, it meant the world to him.
“Then why did you say it? Why’d you drop me? Why?” she demanded.
“Because. Well you know how, um, I didn’t mean it,” he pleaded, “I’d never purposely hurt you, ever.”
“Well, you did, you hurt me,” she whispered calming down slightly.
“I didn’t mean to. One question, though,” he said as it occurred to him, “Why’d you try to me?”
I can’t tell him about the bet, I can’t, I have to tell him something, she thought. “I…I…I thought I was in heaven.” She whispered, then realizing that she’d admitted he was her love, she looked away.
“God I’m sorry, Aeryn. It’s just, I didn’t think you’d care.” He responded.
“I want you to be honest with me, you dropped me because I’m an alien and I’m so…bossy and wrong and and and I dunno, that’s why you didn’t let me kiss you right?”
Aeryn knew he’d say yes he was always truthful.
John hadn’t expected that.
“No, that’s not why. I like you, who gives a frell if you’re an alien or if you are a little bossy. You’re the most beautiful, intelligent, wonderful woman I’ve ever met.” He replied after a moments thought.
She hadn’t expected that.
“Then why?” was all she said.
“Because,” he said
He couldn’t lie anymore.
She couldn’t hold back any longer.
“Because of a stupid bet,” he said just as Aeryn said, “I would’ve kissed you sooner if it hadn’t been for that bet.”
Their heads snapped up to stare at each other, horror and confusion mixed with-in their eyes.
“What did you say?” they said in unison.
