Blast from the Past

by Janne

Summary: John has a revelation that all his past conceptions of what happened when he went through the wormhole and the Uncharted Territories may be false.

Spoilers: It would be extremely helpful if you read my series entitled A Path to Happiness. This is built on that storyline.

Disclaimer: The Farscape concept, theory, characters, and overall universe is not the property of me, but rather of Fox Studios Australia, Jim Henson Co, Sci-Fi Channel, and Nine Network Australia. This story is strictly for entertainment purposes and no copyright infringement is intended.

Author's Note: This story is strongly connected to the Bible. It assumes that the reader knows something about what the basic ideas of the Holy Bible. It was not intended to offend anyone- it came to me when I was watching a mini-series about Jesus. I am not saying that John Crichton is Christian or endorses Christianity. I am simply writing about a possibility with the wormhole situation.

Archiving: If you want it, I only request that you ask me first, then keep my name and e-mail address with it.

I, John Crichton, am a NASA astronaut. I am a scientist. I never was a very religious man. Sure, I went to church like the rest of them, but that was because church was a family activity. It was part of the Sunday morning ritual. I knew the Bible because, like most kids, I went to Sunday school. I never really believed the things the pastor told us, about God and Jesus and salvation. It was never something that I could relate to. I had always believed in the big bang theory, ever since I was about seven and read my first astronomy book. I knew the theory of wormholes, and how no one really knew where they led to, but most people suspected it was a gateway across the universe. So, on this sunny day on Moya, I was astounded to realize that I was wrong. I was dead wrong. It all began when I was chatting with Aeryn.

"Hey Aeryn," I said as I walked into her workout room. She usually got up about an arn before I did and completed her workout routine, then I joined her and we went to breakfast. We were usually assigned to work together, and we were engaged. We were supposed to get married in about a monen, if nothing interrupted the plan. Anyway, Aeryn looked up from her boxing round, and smiled. She stopped and came over to me. I kissed her and lifted her up, swinging her around.

"Hey. Why are you so happy?" she asked flightily. I smiled in return.

"Because I'm going to be married to the most beautiful woman in the universe, it's a gorgeous day on Moya, and there are no Peacekeepers in the area. Doesn't a guy deserve a little happiness?" She laughed.

"Well, I suppose." She kissed me again and we walked into the mess hall. We got our food cubes, put them on a tray and started eating. It started out as usual Leviathan chit-chat, then I switched gears and asked her about Sebacean religion.

"Why do you ask, John?" she inquired. I shrugged.

"Just wondering. Right now, in earth terms, it's what we call Easter Sunday. That's a religious holiday and it got me thinking." She nodded and looked down to her food cubes.

"Terrestrial Sebaceans go to what you call church every Sacath. That's the last day of the weeken. But, Sebaceans born in space, like most Peacekeepers, do not have a daily or even weekly religion regimen." He listened to her.

"You guys never talked about your creators or anything?" I asked inquisitively.

"Not really. We know that there is one deity in the universe, that He made all things, and that in spreading Peacekeeper and Sebacean ways, we spread His word. We know that long, long ago in ancient times, there was a great revolution in religion and a very influential man was sacrificed. A great many people were key in the spread of this religion. That is all we are taught. That is all we wished to know." When she stopped, we were both finished with our meager food cube ration, so we cleared our places and walked around Moya. We weren't scheduled for about two arns, so we went to the Terrace to take advantage of the spectacular view planet-side. When we arrived, we sat down, me first and Aeryn in my lap.

"So you barely know anything about your Creator and code of honor?" I asked, continuing the earlier conversation. I was surprised that Peacekeeper High Command did not teach the soldiers about religion. I mean, wouldn't soldiers be more eager to spread a religious word then to spread terror and destruction? Of course, the soldiers do not think of it that way. Aeryn didn't… My thoughts dwindled away when Aeryn spoke up. She shifted her position and laid her head in the groove of my shoulder blade.

"We know what we needed to know. Actually, the early Armed Nations came up with the idea for the name 'Peacekeepers' from a religious term. Pharisees, I believe. They were the protectors of the earliest people of our religion." I was dumbstruck. I sat there like a fool, with my mouth hanging open and my eyes staring into hers.

"The… Phar… Pharis… Pharisees?" I finally questioned.

"Why, yes John. What's the matter? Are you ok? You look like you have seen a ghost," she said, concerned.

"I think I'll be ok. Aeryn, precisely how long have Sebaceans been around?" I asked, wanting to make sure that I wasn't imagining things. I wasn't sure I had heard the word correctly, or that I remembered correctly.

"I think about 10,000 years. Give or take a hundred or so." I fell back onto the floor.

"8,000 years…" I mumbled.

"What are you talking about John?" Aeryn asked fearfully. I lay there, trying to gather my thoughts. Finally, I sat up again.

"On earth, there is a religion called Christianity. It is centered around the Son of God, Jesus." Her eyes perked up to the name Jesus. At that sign of familiarity, my heart sank. My worst fears were unfolding before me. "Jesus was persecuted, betrayed and tried. He was sentenced to crucifixion. Do you know what that is?" She shook her head no. I sighed. Maybe I was imagining everything… "It's where they nail a person to a cross to die. It's painful and brutal. Jesus died, but his disciples- there were 12- wrote his teachings and accounts in a book, the Holy Bible. As the story goes, Jesus was buried, then resurrected three days alter, just as he said he would. The day he rose is called Easter." She nodded, taking everything in.

"It all sounds vaguely familiar, John," she said, sounding just as scared as I was. I nodded, swallowing the knot in my throat.

"Well, the Pharisees were the chief priests in the times of Jesus. They ruled over Judea, a part of Israel where Jesus lived. They did not believe that Jesus was the Messiah, or God's Son. So, they spearheaded the persecution against him. They considered themselves the peacekeepers of the Jewish religion," I said, taking deep breaths between sentences.

"That all sounds familiar, but how can this be? This is the first time we have spoken of this subject," she said, confused.

"The only thing I can think of is that there are two theories of wormholes. One is that they travel across space. The other is that they transcend time. I simply assumed that I traveled through space. I never really ever considered the other one." She was as dumbstruck as I was.

"No…" she said, shaking her head. I took her head and stroked her hair, holding it close to my heart. "But… that means…"

"I know, Aeryn, I know. It means that I am 8,000 years older than you are. It means that Sebaceans are the next step in the evolutionary chain. It means that I can never go back home."
