**SPECIAL NOTE**: Trying not to spoil the story too much, I have taken
special liberties with this story regarding the child’s memories and the
imaging chamber. Please be aware of that if you intend to read on. There’s a
bit of space so you can turn back now if you don’t think that you’ll enjoy
the thread I chose to take with this Fic. Thanks!

95 Cycles after John’s departure from the break off colony ------

She stared at her reflection deeply, as she did almost everyday, for as long
as she could remember. Most interesting to her were her eyes – baby blue
with a thin ring of dark blue on the outer edge. Her parents didn’t have
those eyes and that bothered her a little. Every time she looked into them,
she saw someone there. Someone familiar. Those eyes.

She chuckled to herself and began combing out her shoulder length brown
hair. It wasn’t long before her attention was once again drawn back to her
eyes. She hardly even noticed. She was lost in a faded memory that hid in
the corners of her mind.

“Hi there” he said.

“Hi. Are you my dad?” she heard a child’s voice ask.

“Yeah, that’s right.” He answered, those eyes looking intensely into hers.

“I love you, daddy” the girl’s voice replied.

Warm arms surrounded her; a firm kiss on her neck. When she stepped back
from the hug, there were those eyes, staring intensely at her, fading way,
then gone.

“Teagn?” called out an approaching female voice.

Jumping slightly, the memory retreating, Teagn responded. “Yes, mother?”

Katralla walked into the room, regal as ever in her white robes and silver
crown. “What are you doing? You’ll be late for classes.”

“Sorry, mother, I was just getting ready and I got a little distracted.”
Teagn laid down the nearly-forgotten ebony handled comb onto the white
dresser, turning to face her mother.

Katralla looked at her disapprovingly. “Westin is waiting for you. It’s rude
to make him wait. Please finish quickly and see that you apologize when you
get there.” She gave Teagn a brushing kiss on the forehead, and turned to
leave the room. Teagn turned back to the highly polished mirror and watched
her mother exit. Teagn gently bit her lip, the question of her strange
memories always on the tip of her tongue. “It’s probably just some weird
dream.” She thought to herself.

Hurrying to her class, Teagn’s mind turned to her tutor. Westin was great at
his job, but he never did understand her yearning to learn more about
science, math, space or exploration. “A lady’s place is not in the stars,
but down here on solid ground, where they can attend to the needs of their
subjects.” He’d once told her. “You must learn how to rule your people with
a firm, but fair hand. It won’t be very much longer before you’re to take
your place as royalty.” Teagn rolled her eyes at the thought. She stopped at
the doorway of the classroom, took a deep breath, and entered “Sorry I’m
late, Westin!”

*************Hours later*************

Having finished Westin’s lessons, Teagn returned to her room. She sat in
front of her mirror again, but this time she opened the top drawer of the
dresser. Pushing away the clutter inside, and pressing carefully in the far
corner, she popped open a secret panel hidden there.

She removed an object; a flat, rectangular gray chip. The markings were
somewhat familiar – she knew them as Peacekeeper. Westin had taught her a
little about their history, the branch-off of their culture and she had seen
markings similar to this one. But it wasn’t anything their society had ever
used. She’d found it many cycles ago while exploring the rooms and had
stored it away. She stared at it, turning it in her fingers, wondering what
it could store. She had never dared ask anyone or even tell anyone she had
it.

A stern voice startled her. “What do you have there, Teagn?” Turning
quickly, she saw her mother, standing in the open doorway.

“I…..it’s nothing.” Teagn lied.

“Then show me.” Her mother replied, her voice taking an edge of concern.

Teagn slowly opened her hand, her face filled with questions. Katralla took
several steps toward Teagn and stared quietly at the chip for several
moments.

“Do you know what it is?” Teagn finally asked.

Katralla’s eyes moved from the chip to her daughter’s innocent face several
times. “I may. I think we should discuss this with…your father.”

They walked together down the pristine hallways. Teagn’s heart beat hard in
her chest. She could hear every little sound. The soft whisper of her mother
’s dress, the tapping of their shoes on the hard floor, the murmured voices
of their servants, her own breath.

Katralla and Teagn entered the large room, which normally serviced for the
planet’s governmental panel. Their meetings done for the day, Tyno was
finishing up the last of the paperwork. Looking up, Tyno’s face registered
the unspoken seriousness of their visit. “Is something wrong?” he asked
concernedly.

“It seems Teagn has found something…interesting.”

At this, Teagn took her cue, and opened her hand for her father. “I see.” He
replied quietly. He looked at Katralla inquizically. She nodded in reply.
Teagn watched their silent conversation, curiously.

Tyno looked deeply into Teagn’s blue eyes. “Darling, I want you to know that
I love you. You know that, don’t you?” Teagn nodded. “What I suspect is on
that chip is a message for you.”

Teagn’s eyes widen “What?”

“Your Uncle Clayvor, who died well before you were born, betrayed us. He had
a Scarren named Cargn poison your mother’s DNA so that she wouldn’t be
compatible with anyone on this planet. One day during our Coronation
Ceremony, a ship came to our world. A man from that ship was compatible with
your mother. His name was John Crichton.”

Teagn’s eyes filled with tears. She was so confused! Was she really hearing
what she thought?

Tyno continued “Your grandmother, Novia, forced him to stay and marry your
mother, with his only other option being sent to the hands of his enemy. He
agreed, but after being turned to a statue, Clayvor had his head removed. We
did eventually retrieve his head, but when the man was re-formed to his
natural state, he couldn’t be changed back to a statue. That’s when he found
out that his DNA had been joined with your mothers.”

Teagn could hardly breath. “Are you saying this man, this John Crichton, was
my father?” she finally managed.

Tyno nodded. “He loved you very much. He knew how much I loved your mother
and asked that I step in his place. If he’d had any other choice, he would
be here with you right now.”

“I remember him.” Teagn said softly. “For a long time, I have always had
these memories of someone, with eyes just like mine.”

“I never thought that would be possible.” Katralla remarked. “And I never
told you, because I thought you would hate us.” Tears streaked down her
face.

“Is – is he on this chip?” Teagn asked in mixture of wonder and fear.

“I believe so.” Katralla answered.

“Can I see it?” Teagn asked.

Katralla and Tyno exchanged glances. Tyno stood up, and gently took the chip
from Teagn. “Of course.” He walked over to the large metal image chamber,
that stood in the room. John Crichton materialized before her. His spiky
brown hair, long black leather coat, innocent face. Teagn stared at the
image. Her eyes stared into his. She remembered them. She recognized them.
Those eyes.

“Uh – Hi.” John chuckled “I don’t even know your name. And you probably won’
t get this, either. But on the off chance that you do...well, what do I say?
I guess I’ll be blunt and say “Hi, I’m your dad”. Boy, talk about rattlers!
I didn’t think being a dad could be so scary, and I’m not even there to
raise you. I hope Katralla and Tyno are takin’ good care of you. I sure wish
I could be there.” John sighed. “I already love you so much and I don’t even
get to see you grow up, and get married and all that stuff.” John paused and
looked off to the side, then back forward. “Well, someone’s coming to pick
this up for me before we have to take off. Now, don’t be mad at your folks!
They were only doing what they thought was best. They love you and I love
you. Don’t forget it. Goodbye sweet pea.” His image faded away.

Teagn looked up at her parents with tears in her eyes. “Thank you.”
