These patterns evolved from an article I saw in Trout Fisherman (henceforth TF)about a scottish invented fly called the "Okie Dokie". This was tied in white with a luminous orange head and looked, quite unlike anything living I've ever seen.
Suffice to say, the seed of inspiration was sewn, by slimming down the original Okie Dokie "buzzer", as it was touted in TF, and changing the colours I came up with the following.
Inch worm caterpillar
Size 14 maggot
Size 16 maggot
Grey grub
Subsequently, I've rethought the amount I slimmed down the flies, which for all apart from the Inch Worm was probably too much. The grey grub is now weighted with an underbody of fine copper wire wound as tying thread to add weight for flowing water. The inchworm now has a thin foam underbody, not enough to make it float, but enough to cause either a very slow sink or occasionally trap the fly on the surface film.
The new flies are below:
New, buoyant, Inch Worm Caterpillar
New size 14 Maggot
New, weighted, Grey Grub

Testing the flies under fishing conditions continues... you'll know more as I do!
