Just recently I've been playing around with quill bodied flies - partly because they're so durable and because I'm a fan of hatching midge imitations and the do make really nice tapered and segmented bodies.
Also, inspired by Ian Mouters book - Tying Flies the Para-loop way -, I've being experimenting with para-loop hackles and dubbed thoracis.

Not a midge imitation this, but a large dark olive - sadly the microfibbet tails don't come out in the photo - I suspect I need a camera with a better macro facility than mine to get them. The thorax is very tightly dubbed, dyed hare's ear.
