Sailing Instructions
(MODIFIED 10-2)
Welcome to Performance Nationals 2001. Jamie and Tiffany Gaines are put on the regatta in Corpus Christi Bay, one of the toughest sheltered spots in the world to sail small boats.  All Nacras, Prindles, and Inters were welcome; classes made for Inter 20, Nacra 6.O, and Nacra 5.5u.

The bay is completely surrounded by land, but the prevailing southeast wind (locals call it "The 150 at 1:50" because the time and direction are so predictable) has a 15-mile fetch before it get to the race area at North Beach. So chop with some bigger waves is routine.

The boats beached on open sand on North Beach (north of the Ship Channel) in an area partially sheltered by the USS Lexington Museum.

LODGING: The Radisson at 3200 Surfside was the official race headquarters hotel. There is a Quality Inn next door as well, at 3202 Surfside.

RV's:
Try Puerto del Sol at the northern end of the beach. It has full hookups and also offers a discounted rate for Nationals. Call 1-888-353-5373 for reservations and information.

FORMAT
: Buoy racing on the 8th through the 11th (Mon-Thu). There was a practice race on Sunday the 7th. Format for the practice racing was a distance race; Eric Kennedy won the short course on a Nacra 5.5u, while Tommy Bahama (Alex Shafer and Nigel Pitt) won the long course on an Inter 20. Billy Richnow was the PRO; he managed to fit 20 races into 3 and a half days. It was a great trial of the fastest and fittest sailors!

DIRECTIONS
: From parts west, get on I-10 to San Antonio, then bear south on I-37. Arriving in Corpus, follow signs to Portland and the Lexington. From the North, I-35 to 37 works. From farther east, head to Houston, then take US-59 (the Southwest Freeway) to Victoria. Peel off onto US 77 and continue to Sinton, where you will hang a left onto US 181. Cross the causeway and exit before the Harbor Bridge to get to North Beach.

RAFFLE:
Was held Tuesday and Thursday nights. Thanks to all the sponsors that provided items, and thanks also to everybody that bought tickets.
