I spend my friday nights at the foundry (pub) and spend most of my weekends over my girlfriends house. When I am at home I spend most of my time working on several projects. I have a fascination for high voltage and have always played with electricity. I had a home made 12kV power supply which was my favorite toy about 6 years ago. It made a really nice purple arc and a violent hissing sound (And stank of ozone) But it made a bloody good cigarette lighter. It could even light a broom handle in less time than a cigarette lighter could. It hurt like hell if the arc hit you though, and leaves burn marks on both sides of your finger. I built several lasers over the years, not much fun these days but back in the days before laser pointers, nobody had seen a laser before, Terminator was a good movie for teaching people to fear lasers (need I say more). My first one ran off 12v and was quite large but kicked arse anyway. I built a laser scanner about 2 years ago which hooks up to a stereo and projects spirals onto the ceiling or walls. Really good for new years parties. Unfortunately I left it in my car and it ended up hanging from a tree when coons broke in and stole my stereo. I play Guitar and Bass although not good enough for a band yet, I still manage to make a racket that resembles music. I get together with a few mates who play guitar and we make a lot of noise and drink plenty. Recently, I have been getting stuck into my latest hobby of building a Tesla Coil, I have bounced the Idea around for over a year and now I am more than half way into it, it just has to be done!!! It stands 2.2 metres tall and is 1metre round at the base. It is powered by 15000v @ 90mA which equates to 1350 Watts of power.Go Hard!! The High Tension supply is built into a separate control cabinet which stands 5 Metres from the coil, well out of harms way. The output from the transformers is so high that the arc it produces forms a Plasma instantly which is yellow and resembles a flame. I am hoping that the coil will throw sparks1-2 Metres when finished. Well thats all the spun out shit, I'm sure that everybody has their own lives to be interrested in without hearing useless shit like: this is my dog "sparky", this is my cat "fluffy", and it has a web page aswell!!! We want destruction, We want to see shit that shouldn't be put in a microwave---> zapped. We want Coins being shrunk with 2 Megawatts of power (If you haven't seen that, it's well worth checking out the Tesla Coil Webring) Hopefully, soon I will dig out my "Blasting Shit" microwave which, after reading about some of the things you can zap, I picked up from the Gosnells Roadside Market (Garbage Collection Day). I grabbed one and it worked!! I also grabbed a few VCR's and fixed them. They are always good to have around but I think having 20 might be overdoing it. We had a ball with the microwave, all kinds of stuff went into it and I am surprized the transformer didn't shit itself. The inside of it has a lot of burn marks, but then what kind of person picks up a Microwave off the side of the road to actually put food into!! Well, thats all I think.
