Last spring my wife brought home some petunias from the local garden center and this spider quickly jumped out and ran into the brush. He later appeared in the garden with a web. It was a very aggressive spider and moved very quickly and would attack rather than run when threatened. It got rather large in the abdomen as the summer went on but eventually it disappeared in a storm in the early fall. I’m curious to see if any other spiders like it appear this summer but I rather doubt it. I don’t know from what part of the country the nursery was located that supplied the garden center but I hope it was at least in this country. |

This is the same guy a little fatter. He's feasting on a moth, Yum Yum! The pictures don't do him justice. He really got quite big. |

Before I got let go at my job 2 weeks before Christmas last year I used to have to drive up and down Rt. 3 going back and forth to Massachusetts. For some reason the skies where exceptional just about every night through most of the summer and into the fall. It was somewhat madding for me because of the desire to get pictures but you have to be out of your mind to stop anywhere along that road unless its an emergency. So in my desperation I took some shots through the windshield. I will say when I got passed the pangs of missed opportunity I did take the time to enjoy the beauty of it all. I think most of the other people on the road just wanted to get home. |
