Requiem For A Dream
While this film isn't exactly fun, it does manage to keep the viewers interest for as long as they can still stomach the misery. It is the ultimate tragedy as it manages to make you care for its misguided characters while realising the inevitableness and unfairness in how their fate reaches them.

If you can stomach this, it is a masterpiece with clever photography and dialogue most films can only dream of. The chances are though, that the last five minutes, when the film reaches its climax, will leave you shaken for a couple of days at least.

Traffic
A film which deals with drugs but manages to put a bright side on it too. While the sections set in Mexico are wonderful the American parts feel a bit too hollywood sometimes. Still, this film is acheives what many epics (including the lord of the rings films) fail to do. It manages to blind you to the passing of time.    ***** :)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Very rarely has a film blockbuster been quite so popular. Normally blockbusters have to have violence toned down in order to appeal to a large number of people. "Independance Day" would never have scraped that disgustingly large amount of cash if it had an 18 certificate because it wouldn't have been able to tap into the "sucker" market.

What confused me as a child was that my parents were watching a film with the adolescent theme of killer robots ( let's face it, I AM from the Transformers generation) and they were saying how 'good' it was! This seems proof that it appeals to all ages. The next year it seemed that the year was seperated into that point before they'd seen the movie and that point after they's seen it. Meanwhile I was yearning for the day I'd be old enough to see it too.

I think Terminator 2 increased the number of children watching films too old for them. Parents couldn't stop their children from watching such a fantastic film when it came out on video, so once they'd shown them that, they couldn't really stop them seeing anything.

Ok so YOU haven't seen this film? You must be the only person in the entire universe! Catch up!

The Alien Movies

Often mentioned alongside the Terminator movies as films children had seen too early, these movies have performed a major feat in managing to ALL be good despite completely different creative influences in each one. The only one that might be said to be a bit poor is Alien Resurrection which, ironically, is directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. The director of none other than *gasp* Amelie! (ok I'm confused too!)
